When I were a lad at school girls did cookery and lads did woodwork. Girls got so pissed off with lads wanting what they had cooked that one day they had done pies with dog food in them and we scoffed the lot in no time. Tasted good enough but going past lamp posts took some doing.

Pie has been around since the ancient Egyptians. The first pies were made by early Romans who may have learned about it through the Greeks.

Had my first one at a chariot race featuring a young Jew called Ben-Hur.

Was over on Teesside at the weekend visiting family and had to call into Petch Butchers in Great Ayton, their pies are fantastic.
I now have several in the freezer of varying flavours. Must say the steak ones are my favourite.

I love pies and was brought up on them cos my grandmother used to get 2 every frigging day from the Grange in Grangetown, had them with chips and peas and Oxo gravy. Oh how I wish I could get my hands on them now!!! nowadays I just have to look at a pie and i'm crippled with heartburn.

They (fraybentos) are in most places like B&M for a £1. Ham and egg pie with branston's smooth pickle is lovely or grovener pie !.
