Not wishing to be rude but rubbish compared to the power pop Clash version. The early 60's Bobby Fuller original is better even with its slower country tinge .
I DJ a little at the Venue Victoria which was owned by Branson s Virgin group . The Stray Cats hadn't broken yet but we're the darlings of the music press after being front page on NME. They had just arrived from New York. There parents flew over for the gig as they had just signed to a major label. The Rockabilly / 50's scene in the UK was some what tainted . Full of ancient Teddy Boy bands such as the comical Matchbox calling themselves Rockabilly or housewives favourite Shaky . There were a few younger bands such as the Polecats but they lacked something . The Stray Cats added a little punk edge and had the glamour of youth and we're not stuck in time capsule. At the gig even the Blitz Kids/later to be called the New Romantics had turned up , Boy George, Steve Strange etc. I remember backstage Topper (Clash) siting in hospitality , just been kicked out of the Clash . The stupidity, innocence of youth , l sat between him and Lemmy just chatted away about a lot of bollocks not realising there importance and brilliance.
