A word of warning for those who think England will have it easy in the 2nd test - Cape Town is like a fortress to South Africa - they never seem to lose there

England 317 for 5 at the end of the 1st Day of the 2nd Test against South Africa in Cape Town
    England 317 for 5 (Stokes 74*, Hales 60, Root 50, Rabada 3-74)
Impressive counter-attack by Stokes and Bairstow against the 2nd new ball made it England's day

Ben Stokes 204 no at lunch on Day 2
The 2nd fastest double of all-time and the fastest by an Englishman - most runs in a session by an Englishman
Simply incredible from Stokes - great support from Bairstow

The 399 partnership between Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow was the highest ever sixth wicket stand in the history of test cricket

Great stuff. They put on 300 today at nearly 8 per over.

Who said Test cricket was boring?

England batsman Alex Hales could miss the third Test against South Africa in Johannesburg because of a throat infection.
The tourists, who lead 1-0 in the series, will decide on the opener's fitness on Thursday before the toss.
Many of Hales' team-mates have suffered from stomach bugs.
If he fails to recover, England are likely to promote Compton to the top of the order and bring in Gary Ballance at number three.

South Africa opted on the eve of the match to release their frontline spinner, Dane Piedt, which means four quicks will line up at the Wanderers. The uncapped Hardus Viljoen has an impressive first-class record at the Wanderers and could make his debut

The Wanderers produces results: there has been one draw in the last 13 Tests - and that was with South Africa 450 for 7 chasing 458 - and since readmission there have been just six draws in 24 Tests with two of those involving significant rain.

An injury to Quinton de Kock on the eve of the third Test against England saw South Africa start the match without replacement Dane Vilas at the ground.
De Kock, 23, slipped and twisted his knee while at home on Wednesday.
Vilas was set to play a domestic match in Port Elizabeth, but flew to Johannesburg on Thursday morning

Root proving he's a class act again.

25 and already has 3,200+ runs at over 55. Could he be the best ever English batsman?
