Other than it could fall down any second you could be right. It's ****e. I haven't been in many years and it can't have improved as they have done no redevelopment of it.
I agree on your second point. I like the fact it is old and its intimidating. Its what English football was before all the money came in, and in my opinion, ruined it. Its got character that you don't get in these pre-fab budget stadiums like St Mary's for example! Basically the same stadium as a few others around the country including Derby. Who wants that? I bet quite a few Southampton fans long for The Dell. A bespoke modern stadium would be great but that's obviously more money. Is there anything particular about Fratton you dont like? Its got toilets, its got seats, its easy to navigate, its covered, got good acoustics - what more do you want?!
That's not actually true. The away end is now sheltered. Maybe 5-10 years ago. Its not falling down either. That's just nonsense.
It reminded me a bit of Ayresome Park, which is the single most intimidating (and unsafe) **** hole I've ever had the misfortune to visit. Boro pulled it down, which was right, but you are right in that the (new style) Riverside is also a horrible ground but for different reasons. I agree completely with the Baseball Ground/Pride Park comparison too. I've been to both and having Derby fans trying to scale a mesh fence to sort us out at the baseball was great fun to see! I also love Goodison and Loftus Road, especially the bit when some **** tried to bite my finger off. That all said, do you want to watch football in a safe comfortable environment or not?
Seems as good a time as any to post what they could have had... <rolf> Yes the blue few genuinely thought they were getting that
Have to agree about St Marys fwiw, I'm not really a fan. Same as Leicester etc. like you say but different coloured seats. But saying that, if we hadn't of built it, ie still been at the Dell when we dropped into L1 & admin then there's no way Markus Liebherr comes in to save us. The rest as they say, is history...
Me? Yeah but I don't hear of much trouble about nowadays. Mainly just Arsenal fans pulling each others hair and scratching each other
They've got a bloke with a drum too btw. Or they did when they were in the PL. Perhaps they've sacked him off now
Mate, no one longs for The Dell. Fond memories, yes, & some cracking atmospheres, especially in the days when the Milton and Archers Rd ends were all standing. But in the end it was a mercy getting out of that place. Plenty of **** views and you had to cut your legs off if you wanted to sit down.
Been brisbane road a couple of times when chelsea were playing there (years ago) Would like to think they'll be ok,but a club will fold sòoner or later.
