Before my time. Born in '79. Only ever been in the Vic once. A girls birthday party when I was about 9-10 years old. Poor lass was on the path but hit by a car and killed next to the Jet garage, just up the road, not long after. She was in my class at school. Still upsets me thinking about it, wondering what sort of life she may have had, had she not been standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.
'Paste Egg' bank in Lanchester, mate. where I did all my sledging as a youth. Topper hill for it..on the east-side of the village, on the way up towards Burnhope.
I'm still getting to know this area, mate. I haven't even been here a year yet. Been to Lanchester though, it's a gorgeous place. Me and my Mam went for food there a few times at the back end of last year, just lush. I think I've been to Burnhope as well, me and my brother went to a few local grounds during the summer to watch the cricket and I'm sure Burnhope was one. If you are coming from Durham, is it a right turn just before you go into Lanchester?
I know exactly where you are talking about. Let's hope it snows, cos me and our lad will have the kids straight out in it.
Was always the case that nobody knew where Annfield Plain was unless you said 'between Stanley and Consett.' Wonder how many times we've passed each other on the street !
That's the one. You can take a right fork in the durham road, not long after the turning to langley park on your way up from durham. or do a sharp right at the protestant church once you get into lanchester, and a steep climb up the hill (paste egg bank is on the left-side of the hill). lovely place, lanchester. i was fortunate to grow up there
Know Wilton Gilbert fairly well Although quite a few years since I've been Born in Segga but moved away 1983
it flooded a few times when i was a kid, always at the same spot in front of what was the queens. it does flood much more frequently, certainly in recent years. much like the country as a whole.
And what a terrific year that was, Vince. A legend was born. I find it lovely over here, certainly not what I've ever been used to coming from Jarrow. Plenty of walks and relaxation for me and dog. It does me the world of good. The Witton Club has just been took over and refurbished, it looks really nice and they are starting to put bands on in there now. I'm hoping to start popping in there every now and again. When you say you were born in Segga. Is that what they called Sacriston around here?
It snowed on my way home, I was in the beast though, I could see folk in Fiat 500's panicking. I was fine.
