Suzi Perry: So Stig, Tell us about the technical inovations we can find on the new Mercedes...

*Stig gets into his car and drives off into the distance*

Maybe they should get James May to do the technical briefs?

He loves that kind of thing

Seems to me like the BBC are trying to kill F1 viewing figures so when it comes to contract renewal time they can say the viewing figure are declining so it's not worth the money!

They are running it down to the ground, they haven't got the tools to compete with Sky.

Seems that way, just obvious that F1 viewers are not worth the travelling fees and broadcasting licences. Sad really but I am over it, streaming is not much of a hassle.

What annoys me most about Sky is you have to buy the full sports package in order to get F1. Not all of us want flippin' football!
My answer: a cheap satellite system from Lidl's so I can tune into RTL Germany. Ok so I can't understand what they're saying, but at least I get to see all the races live.

You can listen to English commentary via Radio 5 Live which is on Freeview as well as 909/693 MW !!!
I have just received a new dish to point at 19.2E/RTL just have to wait for weather to improve to install. I will use a Humax HDR to record the pictures from RTL and I have a Freeview PVR to record R5 sound.
Reason for 2 recorders is so I can get sound in sync with pictures by pausing either pictures or sound to get sync.

That is great news. I wonder how diplomatic Mark will be about Red Bulls troubles :)

New sat dish pointing to 19.2e to receive RTL is up and running :) Roll on Australia.

So (bringing this thread from the dead) It looks like the BBC is thinking about getting loose of the F1 coverage all together as they try to make cost cuts.

Ecclestone seems to be keeping it together though.
"Everything is great with the BBC, They just want to pay less money. I am getting very stupid and old, so I had to ask them if they had a contract with us, They said they had, so I told them that we had better stick to it then."

Imagine if SKY had unrivalled coverage of F1. The sport would be dead in the UK.

The other issue is BBC also have contract for Radio coverage via 5Live, and a contract for showing F1 via internet. So they might be trying to cut those if they can't cut half tv coverage but I guess they are also on contract with Bernie again.

I did read somewhere (can't find source yet) that Bernie had been quoted as saying something like 'we don't care about the money from BBC' !!! Which seems like a miss quote, as I can never imagine Bernie saying he doesn't care about income!!

If the BBC loose F1 the UK viewing figures will drop massively. I feel for the teams as their sponsors wont be willing to pay same amount for less UK tv coverage. Bernie still gets decent money from Sky but teams suffer!!!

As in Germany and France, probably elsewhere too. It's idiotic, really, as stupid as taking races away from where there is a loyal audience and putting them in new places where there is none.

I f***ing love Carlos Science too

Wonder if ITV would take it back?

They may get it for a knock-down price if Bernie is so committed to keeping it on free to view in the UK as he has made out in the past.

Fire up the electrodes and dust off Jim Rosenthal..........

at 46secs "Do not adjust your sets, this is Formula one on ITV.........I am Jim Rosenthal"

    Priceless.

Just watched the entire preview, brings back some memories. And remember, ITV were slated for their coverage post-BBC. Just remember how good we actually used to have it now you have to watch some of Sky's tabloid style coverage.

I would miss the BBC team, they are so much more human than the starched shirts on Sky (plus the idiot, 'Crofty').

The thing with ITV is that they can dedicate decent coverage on one of their other channels like they do with BTCC etc. BBC have attempted to do it half cocked really, with only certain races and often shortened coverage - half the time it was like the Motorsport version of MoTD.
