Sunderland in Managerial Limbo as Preston Boss Simon Grayson Snubs Black Cats Post

With the wounds of relegation from the Premier League still fresh in the memory of the Black Cats, further uncertainty and turmoil seems to be mounting at the Stadium of light as players and fans remain in the dark about the current managerial situation within the club.

According to reports from the Mirror, Preston North End manager Simon Grayson is the latest name to turn down the current Sunderland vacancy following Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes' snub. The club have openly confessed that "we don't know what we're doing" highlighting the struggle those at the top are facing to stabilise an unstable situation.

With owner Ellis Short keen to sell the club to interested parties, any potential candidate wanting to fill the boots of the departed David Moyes will be thrown right into a turbulent state of affairs which will no doubt make the position an undesirable one.

The club also admitted that "with this backdrop we have been unable to give assurances any potential candidate would need regarding the plans a new owner could have for the manager's position."

Despite the exit of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to Everton for £30m in the week, funds will be unavailable to whoever takes charge at the managerial helm.

As far as Grayson is concerned Preston is where his priorities lie and he has affirmed his loyalties to the club by stating he is "fully committed to working out what we're doing for the season at Preston".

The Preston boss also seems intent on building on last season's good run of form and achieve better things ahead - "I've been there just over four years now and really enjoyed my time. You just get on and do what you do and I'm focused on trying to get things right at Preston."

In light of the above, it seems safe to say that as speculation carries on about who will manage Sunderland next season, Simon Grayson has firmly ruled himself out of the running.

Is there actually a quote from Sunderland saying "we don't know what we're doing"?

I think it got said within a sentence, so it has been completely taking out of context. I'm sure it was about the takeover and the club were just saying what we already knew, that the club was in limbo between a takeover and trying to appoint a new manager.

If the reports are true I'm pleased he's turned us down, purely for the fact I wouldn't have him near our club.

What's more worrying is the fact he's been approached.

I can believe the whole thing, clearly we're not going to get anyone decent until the club is sold so they may as well stop trying and start going after some of our transfer targets manager or no.

Surely you have to be asked about something to turn it down?

If he's said he wouldn't take it if he was offered that a different thing, I'm reading it like he has been approached though.

I did say 'if reports are true' - not saying I believe it either.

<laugh> bloody hell. Who are you going to get? I suspect it would be prudent to sort out the ownership situation. The instability is destroying your chances of hiring someone. You need someone strong and stable running the club. If only we knew of anyone strong and stable.......

German consortium buys us and appoints Jurgen Klinsmann (you heard it here first)
We then go nuts in the last week of August and sign half a new team

I'm starting to wonder if that would have you going into the season with exactly half a team.

Valerie Singleton may work but you do realise that John Noakes is dead, mind you a stiff is probably a step up from Moyes.
