Midfielder Darren Potter has been released from Sheffield Wednesday by mutual consent, the club has confirmed. The 26-year-old originally moved to Hillsborough on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2009. He later made the switch permanent in the 2009 summer transfer window. In a statement on the club's website, the Owls said: "Potter made 103 appearances for Wednesday, scoring nine goals, and the club would like to thank Darren for his services and wish him well for the future." A Brian Laws signing and a regular starter during his tenure, Potter was rarely picked by Alan Irvine or Gary Megson and fell a considerable way down the pecking order. The ex-Liverpool youngster is not believed to have a new club lined up at this stage.
glad to see the back of him to be honest, i would have liked to see o'connor go as well. they have been at the heart of our midfield in the last 2 poor seasons
