Hi Tigernation - just getting use to Not606 after the demise of BBC 606.

Just a thought - going great at the minute, but at the Scunny game on Saturday I overheard some lads talking about the strength of the team in the Premier League years.

Given where we are I thought it would be worth going down the line ups.... basic i know but quite revealing...Who would you prefer in whuch position (best as i can remember...) - Not Squad Numbers before you comment...

    1. Myhill/Duke Mannone/Guzan/Duke
    2. Rosenior/McShane Mendy/McShane
    3. Dawson/Kilbane Dawson/**** - No Cover!
    4. Turner Chester
    5. Zayatte Gerrard
    6. Ashbee Evans/Harper
    7. Bullard/Garcia Koren/Devitt
    8. Geovanni Stewart
    9. Olaf/Barmby Cairney/Belaid
    10. Garcia/Fagan Fryatt/Simpson
    11. Folan Mclean

Where would we rather be ----- I think we look a lot stronger and have a lot more potential. Be interested in your comments or you expanding in this as it is only relying on my fading memory...

Another interesting comparison would be with the promotion winning team as I guess that is the true comparison with our current campaign...!

    UTT

    4-0 on Saturday.

Great reception pls for Browny/Horton & Ash.

You haven't included our best strikers in the Premier League, which were Cousin and King(even Big Jan should get in ahead of some of those mentioned).

It's hard to choose the centre half pairing, if you choose the best two you get Turner and Gerrard, but Zayatte was a much better player when partnered with Turner.

I would do the rest but there are a lot of players missing.

Starting point for some threads Guys..... amazing how much I've forgotten in such a short space of time!!!! Thanks.
I would have like JVoH to stay with us for another season as I think he would have done a good job for us - but having been part of the current journey i'm positively salivating with anticipation for the rest of the season.

Isn't it great to be a Tigersfan!!!

Vennegoor has only played three games in Austria but not sure if this is due to injury or if their league has a funny schedule. It's a shame we couldn't have kept him for this season.

    Myhill

He's played eight games so far, six in the Austrian Bundesliga and two in the Europa League, scoring three goals.

It's hard to put Bollard in there after the way he's gone on, but he's the most technicaly gifted player I think we've ever had, and Koren has to be in there aswell. Ash was great for us undeniably but I chose Koren and Bollard as they're both clearly much better players. I was going to put 4-3-1-2 with Ash in there but that would mean losing Hunty ****y who has to be in there too.

Going to make one change though which I didn't think of

    ------------ Myhill ---------------
    Rosenior, Turner, Mouyokolo, Dawson
    Geovanni, Koren, Bullard, Hunt
    -------- Fryatt, McLean ----------

Based purely on ability, and the caveat that they are all fit / not in ****ing prison where they should be, I think our best team would be

    Mannone

    Rosenior - Turner - Gerrard - Dawson

    Geovanni - Ashbee - Bullard - Hunt

    King - Fryatt

    Bench
    Myhill
    Mouyokolo
    Stewart
    Mclean
    Koren
    Barmby
    Garcia

It's an interesting comparison. But when you refer to our EPL team, there are actually two different teams.

In 08/09 we had a very poor midfield with no creativity for most of the season, and were fortunate to stay up, partly due to a great defence.

In 09/10 having lost Turner, but improved the midfield a lot. We were better going forward and had some high scoring encounters, but usually our rubbish defence let us down.

Somebody made the point that Zayatte was much worse without Turner alongside him, so which Zayatte are we talking about? He and Turner were a great partnership but he and Gardner were appalling! Same goes for McShane, he was good for the first season but useless since then.

Overall, basing each player on their performances at the time I'd go with:

    Mannone
Rosenior Turner (08/09) Gerrard Ricketts (08/09)
Stewart (Dec 10) Boateng (Early 08/09) Bullard (Nov 09) Hunt (09/10)
    Fryatt McLean

I think JVoH and even Altidore (no I don't hate him for not scoring loads, sorry) were decent players but Fryatt and McLean beat them to it.
How good would that back 5 be if we still had Turner and Ricketts?!

Altidore's job was indeed to mainly get assists, he also won 2 or 3 penalties by terrifying defenders into silly challenges, he was imposing when he ran at them and they panicked. And let's not forget, 2 or 3 penalties for Hull City is the equivalent of 5 or 6 for most clubs, and 10 or 11 for Burnley or Stoke ;)
