You have to remember that the mysterious Bertrand apparently is desperate to get away from the club [despite the fact that every article and video he's actually spoken in he says it's rubbish and that he's happy and he's staying], so he played all last season as badly as he could [I thought his latter form was up and down, but not terrible], which has carried on this this season. And simply will not do.
Well don't look in that direction then. I saw it first pop up yesterday in one article. I suspect that there have been a myriad of others based solely on that first one. I said yesterday that we might have been interested about 5-6 seasons ago. Can't see it happening now, unless it is a stop gap measure only. There is a gap for a high quality striker in our squad, in my opinion. There is no Lambert/Pelle forward who can hold the ball up and bring others into play, and add his own measure of goals. Remy isn't that either.
Bas Dost was a rumour from before and he would fit that bill potentially, but Newcastle tried offering into the £30M+ earlier in the window and Sporting turned it down. He scored 34 in 31 in the Portuguese league last season.
He might be happy to stay, I didn't go into it, but to me it's obvious that starting since second half of last season and carrying into this season his form has not been up to his usual standards. If both of you think he's playing on top of his game, what can I say but ok.
At least 1 person here was very anti signing him but I can't remember who. He does score but that put me off.
I said first game he was pretty much MOTM and it's hardly just me saying that. Last season is an irrelevance. Nobody played particularly at the top of their game last season (bar perhaps Maya and JWP/Jack).
Id take dost , hes 28 , in his prime, big and strong and scores goals. 35 million isnt alot considering the market atm for a striker.
Doubling our transfer record for someone who wouldn't necessarily command a starting spot, and is at the upper end of our age scale. That doesn't sound like us.
