Can't wait to see these at Talking Heads on the 29th, brand new release from the new album out next month....
Love that track, I have the intro as my ring tone - was an entirely ironic choice of tune to use, as anyone that knows me will soon tell you
Just watching Ade Edmondson on celeb masterchef, and reminded me of this great rendition of a classic Jam track
And of course something from "Elbow" for Arnautovic....the song could refer to the away fans today...
I've got 3 Queen albums. Only one of which I bought myself - The Works, of which Hammer To Fall is on. The ex-partner left me with the other 2. Truthfully, I could never quite take Queen seriously, and to this day I still can't, looking back. They are a bit of fun, and that's it. I have tried to fathom this out and my conclusion is that they were the first semi-serious band entirely from the mid-70's glam rock era who were making influenced progressive rock sounds, but not at the same serious level as those bands that I loved. So I've always considered them lightweight, even though I really respect Brian May. Odd isn't it. As an alternative, give me Punk Rock any day. There's no pretence in that genre, and there seemed to be so much in Queen. And the funny thing is that I really liked them during Live Aid day, probably because they got the crowd going so well. So, as you can read, the discontinuity is all in my head. Anyway, here's the song I used to sing to myself for several years while lane swimming back when I was a bronzed god [my ex-wife's description] and fighting fit [it's the right pace and rhythm when doing 60-80 lengths of the pool]: But really, give me The Stranglers or anybody else that I can't think of off the top of my head...
Two legendary male vocalists were born on this day in West Bromwich. Firstly the late and great, Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott who was born today in 1949, here he is at his best on one of my favourite live albums, Live and Dangerous...
And Happy Birthday to the often copied but still the best white Blues/Heavy Rock singer, from Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant. who is 69 today..
