Happy Birthday to Sir Mick Jagger, who is 74 today. He is probably the most iconic frontman in the history of Rock. Here he is at his best...
I've got several Donovan Leitch albums. His era started about the same time as The Beatles, though nobody in the house bought any of his records, so I discovered him on my own, so to speak, a little later. Fact is, when I first heard Donovan, I thought at first I was listening to the famed Dylan [again, nobody in the house bought records either], and was actually quite pleased at what I was hearing. Donovan always has a very poetic phrase and a soft voice that is perfectly suited to his very good acoustic guitar playing. Here's Jersey Thursday from the Fairytale album.
Me and Steel's have been missing you on the QPR music thread Saints, I hope you still pop over when you get five min Bro
Loved the Mingus track. I haven't got much Mingus in my collection but have seen the current Mingus Big Band oin a couple of =occasions and really enjoyed their gigs. The obvious choice for Friday. Always loved Phil Woods spikey alto playing on this track:-
Curious to also see the Jon Lee Hooker track. I quite like Chicago blues but Hooker is one musician whio have never grabbed me the way that some of the other players from that era have. I much prefer Howlin' Wolf. Hooker seemed to get better with age and his voice developed a lived-in quality.
Linsey Alexander is a new discovery for me after I stumbled on this clip about a year ago. The 2nd album he issued on Delmark is terrific and recommended if you like B. B. King. (Must admit that Delmark is a great record label and the only one I will buy discs of people I know nothing about simply because I know they only put out great blues and jazz recordings. ) The lyrics are pretty funny too. On this track he has out his guitar down . Always think that the music scene in Chicago must currently be the best in the world for jazz / blues and far more interesting than the contemporary New York one.
Alright Greg, how's it hanging my friend?. It didn't take you long to post some Joke on here.. I just started this thread for the Summer 'cos things get pretty quiet on here until the season starts and it's been fun to see some of the music that fellow Saints like. I'll be back to get my music fix on your excellent thread when this thread closes in a few weeks time... Up the Saints and the R's...
Put this EJ song up for no other reason than Greensaint inspired me to with his reply about butterflies. There's a motive in anything : http://www.not606.com/threads/manolos-miraculous-miscellany.271457/page-1664#post-10781665
Following on, after all these years, I think this is my favourite song off Goodbye Yellow Brick Road [1973]. Somehow I never thought it fitted on the album, it is so different from the rest. B-B-B-Bennie & The Jets:
