This is what I think has happened with Fonte. Just speculation.

He won the Euro's ... happy days.
His agent then told him to take advantage of this and move to a bigger club. Utd are interested.
Fonte gets his head turned.
Tries to force through a move to Utd ... Les Reed doesn't allow.
Fonte acts the dick behind the scenes trying to get his move, burning a few bridges along the way.
Come January, his relationship with whoever has broken down, and can't now get his dream move to Utd. West Ham will have to do, as it's impossible for him to stay.

 

As you have written - its your speculation.

If the internet had existed then we'd have been told that "Ted Bates has lost the dressing room" at some point or another.

Yep, I heard the Laundry lady signed an extended contract last night, to take her earnings just above the living wage. Puel said that it was an interesting deal, with many possibilities.

 

I heard we are signing a player called Ephemeral Transient. Like most of our players I don't think he'll hang around for very long.

 

Everything in this universe is ephemeral, and transience is the only constant, so expect he'll be with us for a while.
