If you mistime a challenge with the feet it's thought terrible if it injures the other player badly even if unintentional. If you do it with your head it's thought bad luck. Yet heads need to be protected more.

As I mentioned earlier, feet have studs, heads do not. Yes heads need more protection, but there's a reason lunging studs up challenges are deemed worse.

I really don't know why this is even being argued about.

Going for a header using the retro leather balls they used to use was like getting twatted over the head with a heavy bag of spuds, especially if it was pissing it down. Football for the most part has always been quite dangerous. The new technology in creating footballs and shin pads has made it considerably safer.

    I don't agree
It is just a extremely unfortunate incident

Cahill was running and jumping onto the ball and swung his head
Mason cleared the ball and cahill could'nt stop
I bet cahill feels preyty **** right now
    No blame should be attatched

Celebrating wildly does seem a strange thing to do.

I think some people are looking way too deep into this! Gary Cahill only had eyes for the ball, was he late, yes maybe fractionally but not late enough for any blame what so ever to be placed on him! Reverse the roles and Cahill is the one in hospital and I guarantee everyone on here would be saying, it's no blame of Mason's.
Also Cahill celebrating like he did was more to do with the fact we had given them a hell of a game and also the fact it gives them a cushion at the top. At the time of the second goal, none of the players will have known the extent of the injury so would probably assumed that it was concussion and he would be fine. Stop looking at the tiniest details and concentrate your thoughts on the player involved.

    Exactly this
During the game, no one on the pitch had any idea it was something so serious

    Don't blame anyone
And just hope mason recovers well over the next few days which are the crucial parts of the recovery process

You still haven't given any good reason why. Head injuries are treating more seriously, yet head challenges aren't. A total contradiction.

Class touch by Chelsea players and staff.

No fault lies with any player, just two players totally committed and both going for and trying to win a header. You can see both players are focused only on the ball. One player trying to defend and the other trying to score.

It's just a really unfortunate accident.

    Ryan Mason Update

The Club can confirm that Ryan has been visited this morning at St Mary's Hospital by Club Captain Michael Dawson, Club Doctor Mark Waller, Head of Medical Rob Price and Club Secretary Matt Wild.

Ryan has been speaking of the incident yesterday and will continue to be monitored at the hospital over the coming days where the Club will remain in close contact with Ryan, his family and the staff at St Mary's.

Ryan and his family have also been extremely touched by the overwhelming support they have received and would very much like to thank all of those who have posted such positive comments both on social media and in the press over the last 24 hours.

The update sounds reasonable, Michael Dawson and others from the club visited him this morning.
Early days yet but fingers crossed.

Extremely positive news if Ryan has been talking of the incident. I had major fears that news would eventually break that he was in an induced coma due to a bleed but thankfully this doesn't seem to be case.

Hopefully the good news rolls in each day. It's a long road but it's looking more positive than first thought.
