@Safc83 But what's the point in going from one championship club now...to another championship club waiting in the wings. Hardly what he'd see as a lucrative 'career move'?
Russell Martin on Olsson:- “I think what you’re getting at is, would the lads see it as we’re not going to see anything at the end of the season if we let players like him go – but that’s not the case. We’ve got depth, we’ve got quality and I’m sure they’ve got a replacement lined up if he does go." First point, depth? OK, so long as playing a 3rd /4th choice right back at LB counts, then yes Secondly, replacement? Clearly not, or they'd not have - foolishly, in some people's eyes, let Toffolo go out on loan again until something was well down the 'sorted' pipeline. This club becomes more and more of a charade and laughing stock on a daily basis!
Well another alternative is, of course, that they´re not going to let Brady go at any price, and that he will be the ready made replacement, if and when Olsson goes. Just because no one has publicly been announced, doesn´t mean that no-one is being lined up. Fans and media, despite thinking they know, are actually always the last to know. And I know, in many fans eyes, Brady is not really a full-blooded left back, but he plays there for the I. Rep, and I guess Martin O´Neill has some idea of what he´s doing.
I can't believe that's true for one second. He's our most coveted asset and his sale is the only thing that can help facilitate some strengthening of a fragile, ponderous, leaky defence. Such as a proper left back and a decent centre half.
Or maybe even more mind-boggling then, perhaps Alex Neil is going to try a 3-5-2 formation for the rest of the season, where Brady would be a shoe-in for the left sided role - now that would take your breath away wouldn´t it? The real answer is, nobody knows.
Brady is as close to an exit as Martin Olsson is - you've heard Mr A Neil and the invisible CEO state that we need to sell before we can strengthen. Unless there's interest (none I've seen reported) in Naismith and / or Pritchard - and given form since arrival, neither are worth remotely near what NCFC paid to acquire them. A successful asset-stripper starts with the items of highest perceived value
keep your hair on, there´s still 14 days of this window left yet, we may even get somebody in, you never know.
Christ, I sincerely hope so! I'd suggest we could use a DM, LB and CB as soon as is realistically possible. Which positions do you propose need attention, then?
The most urgent at the moment is a CM, where if Howson's ankle is serious, we're down to McGrandles, whereas we have Tettey, Mulumbu and Thompson at DM. I'd then say we need a LB as soon as Olsson's deal is completed (if it is at all, given what happened at West Brom in the summer). If Brady leaves, I'd rather we get in a young, hungry striker.
Flexible? Open minded? Balanced? Fair minded? Rather strange that the last time our paths crossed you were accusing me of never stating what my opinion was as to whether AN should go or stay. I suggest you read again my post 1496 on the 'How Long Do We Give Him' thread which with the post on this thread after the Rotherham game brings you right up to date with the thoughts of your flexible friend. Should I change my mind again rest assured I will make certain you are the first to know. Right now Bar Magnan has a new waitress for me to look at and I think I fancy her even more than the regular waitress . Just shows how opinions can change
Wasn't his transfer attempt foiled by snow? Which, despite Englands carp weather, makes it last January RER.
Have I got my webcam on? No joking - that is exactly what I have in front of me!! It's a hard life but someone has to do it.
I can remember it snowing in June once, GE, but you're quite right. My memory isn't what it once was. The point remains, however.
