On last nights evidence it doesn't matter as not one of them is worthy of it. Bar the goalie so yeah, give it (some) Hart. What last night proves without any shadow of any doubt is that Southgate can not ever be an England manager. He picked Rooney out of position v Malta and then bowed to media pressure and dropped him and then produced a diabolical performance with a team that the English tabloids essentially picked for him. He's not up to it, he can **** off before his 'four match trial' is over.
This is the problem. The press puts pressure on the new manager to pick this and to drop that. No chance to be his own man. And who gets the flak when things don't turn out as expected ? Not the hacks Now that the Rooney drop has not worked out, what do they say? Southgate was too weak and yielded to pressure. If he hadn't done so he would be labelled as under Rooney 's thumb.
In fairness no one would care if Southgate actually got a result. Scraping a 0-0 draw against a team ranked 67 in the world, who have qualified for one out of the last seven international tournaments and yet still outplayed us for most of the game will always result in questions being asked.
I think the sporting press were trying to keep a lid on it by only putting it all over the back pages
