2017 seems to be continuing 2016 for celebrity deaths. Just heard the Graham Taylor passed away - what ever our Sunderland memories of him are he was a very real and popular influential football man. RIP
I remember he was co-commentator on radio 5 for the game where we beat Chelsea 0-3. Alan Green was babbling and ranting negatively from a Chelsea perspective, but Graham Taylor kept stopping him and pointing out what we were doing well. Unfortunately for him he will be remembered as the England manager who failed to get us to USA '94 (and the turnip head campaign), but Watford and Villa will remember him for the right reasons. That Cutting Edge documentary about him was absolutely brilliant too.
RIP to s genuinely nice fella I met around 4 years ago randomly when I was on holiday in London! Bumped into him in Covent Garden and he answered all the questions me and my mate had for him! Lovely fella
Like Billy I thought he was a waste of a good skin in his professional career however on a personal level RIP to the bloke.
Pot calling kettle black eh Bill. You obviously didn't know him - you would have given your right (****ing) hand for him as a manager instead of the procession of ****wits you've had over the years....
...and how many Watford or Villa games did you see Gil? I know a waste of a good foreskin when I see one eh Gil....
I maybe didnt word it very well. Talking about his England professional career. He was a yes man and useless. However like I also said on a personal level RIP to the bloke.
A great, great shame as he was football through and through. Unfortunately his only perceived failure was when managing England and only one man effectively did that, but he was similarly hounded out for not qualifying for Germany 74. Let disingenuous journalists come out with their bile, but us football fans should remember in a more honest way.
