Yeah, but somehow I don't think £8m up front would be enough. We'd need at least £10m I think, with another £4m in add ons. Look at what McCormack went for and he just went to another Championship club.
If this story was true, then it’d be essentially swapping Shane Long for Jordan Rhodes, which would be ****ing stupid.
Don't see what problem people have with Rhodes. He clearly has talent and potential and is still young. He also has potential to score way more goals than Long. Long wanted to leave so our hand was forced. Good players have to make the step up from the Championship at some point. I would rather have Rhodes. Especially for the player he could be in two seasons but I also believe he would make an instant impact. He definitely isn't worth 12 million but then neither is Long.
rhodes is only 3 years younger than long tbf and he's done ****e for scotland.. i wouldnt spend £12m on him tbh
Only 3 years younger?!?!?! So that is theoretically three more years of resale value and 3 more years of playing time. Also. I never said he is worth 12million. Because he isn't. If Rhodes could put away half the signings he does in the Championship away then he would be a great signing.
Rhodes is reportedly on a **** load a week too. Which is why he was quite happy to sign a new 5 year deal. I'm sure from memory it's over £55k per week - for a Championship player!!
That was when they originally signed him. I'm sure his new contract will have seen a modest increase! With the Venky's it may even have doubled!!
Just when I was starting to take you seriously. Fletcher 36 goals in three years. Rhodes around 100 goals in the same period But I agree that the price is going to be a sticking point. Especially considering they signed him for £8million and he has vastly improved since then. Structured deal based on appearances, survival and goals would seem likely if it does happen.
if rhodes cost £12.. no thanks... why do you rate rhodes so high? he's scored a good few in the championship? he's not as good as you think fletcher any day if he's cheaper, if rhodes was say £8.. then get him in.. but £12m would be pretty much all our transfer kitty.. since we need other players... i would love rhodes but, it is not a sustainable deal
Because good players come from the Championship and the league players are in alone should not be the defining decision maker. Good players have to make the step up at some time. I rate him highly because he is a natural goal scorer. Scored a **** load of goals for an average team and has plenty of time to improve and make the cut in the Premiership. He's scored more than a few. Scored 29 - 12/13 Scored 25 - 13/14 2nd top scorer two years running. But we can both agree that 12million is too steep and I don't think he is worth it. Fletcher is injury prone and doesn't score many goals.
Long is quicker, but Rhodes is a better footballer and has an infinitely better shooting boot. I take Rhodes over Long every day of the week
Mental. Rhodes is a proven Championship player. Long is a proven Premier League player. Not knocking Rhodes, but there is no guarantee at all he’d cut it in the top flight at all. Crazy that people would vindicate such a move based on evidence of him scoring in the league below. Records/stats in the Championship mean next to **** all in this division.
Apart from Rhodes goal stats I'm supposing you have nothing whatsoever to back this up. Infinitely better shooting boot? **** me.
How does anyone ever play in the Premiership then? You do realise Lambert, James Rodrigez, Adam Lallana used to play in the Championship? We just signed Tom Ince from Blackpool, Harry MaGuire from League One and Robertson from a league which is probably the standard of the Championship. Why did we sign Tom Ince? Surely it was based on his performances for Championship team Blackpool. (We where in for him before he went to Palace). In fact. A lot of our team are Championship players who made the cut in the Premiership. I think it is crazier and arrogant that people wouldn't consider looking in the Championship for players.
