Well now that it's all sorted another promoted side went down.
Has there ever been a season where all three have stayed up?

I'm almost certain there's never been a season all three have gone done or all three have stayed up.

It's always been one or two.

Think it's worked the other way too, relegated sides having either one or two come back up.

Of I'm only talking from about 1990 (when I started watching football) and of course now someone is going to show me to be entirely incorrect in spectacular fashion.

    1990? Thought ncle weren't formed till 1992!
Just googled it...in 2000/01 all 3 promoted sides stayed up (fulham, blackburn and bolton)
And in 2010/11 QPR, norwich and swansea stayed up.

96/97 Palace, Barnsley and Bolton all went straight back down after promotion. In 01/02 Blackburn, Bolton and Fulham all stayed up after promotion.

Just knew that it was going to be incorrect. The second I typed "almost certain" it was destined!

    Fair play!

As the regards the 1990 comment, I was 8 at the time and it was nothing to do with Newcastle United to be honest. It was Italia '90 and the coins you could collect then followed by a fantastic tournament. Added to the mix having Waddle, Beardsley and Gascoigne as 'locals' it was hard not to get into the sport.

Waddle was a Mackem you know.
I read somewhere once that he never played against us.

    That's fine :)

I'd support Newcastle players first but then I'd prefer to see lads from local to the North-East generally next. I've never been quite sure which part of the north-east says "pelanty" though.

Like Celtic when they won the European Cup.
    Every player came from Glasgow.
When you gonna see that again?

Unlikely isn't it. Just can't compete with a team fielding players chosen from all around the globe. The only teams I think of in recent times who have so many locals in them are a long way from winning things! Boro when McLaren was there (I think they fielded a team in the Premiership with all local lads) and that Spanish Basque team who make a point of it.

We seem intent on having a 'token geordie' we can't get rid of. Taylor and now Colback. It was different in the 90's when they were actually good local lads!

Bilbao are the most likely team to stand a chance of that, but even then it's remote.

    Football has evolved since.

John Hartson, and he's from Swansea, says "pelanty". It always makes me cringe. <laugh>

Ah ok if Waddle and Hartson both say it then it's not an accent thing it's a 'thick' thing.
