Reports the chronicle. I rate him highly and don't wanna see another Fraser Forster situation where the lads pisses off on the cheap and goes on to play for England. I'd rather Rob Eliot go TBH.
Wouldn't rather see Elliot go but for gods sake let's see him out on loan. He won't have ironed out his mistakes from last term so wouldn't want him with us until he has. If we actually sell Darlow when we're still stuck with Sels returning next season, I will be disappointed
Sels has already gone out on loan I believe. Darlow isn't that good and I wouldn't be bothered if he was sold to fund the purchase of a more experienced keeper. Elliott and Woodman as back up.
26 means still developing as keeper though, keeper peak about 31/32. A handful of glaring errors in Jan/Feb time (QPR, Norwich, Bristol City etc) but excellent apart from that, properly owned the position after Sels being a clown at the start of the season. Maybe Elliott more dependable, more Darlow has more potential. Would far more retain Darlow than Krul anyway.
I'd rather have a farm animal in goals than Krul to be fair. I'm struggling to think of many great GK's who didn't establish themselves by late 20's as top goalkeepers.
Yeah, £5m seems a bit cheap for an English keeper who has stepped into the role and held his own (bar, as you said, some glaring mistakes). He could have a decent year here as either 1st or 2nd choice (if we sign Reina for example it's likely he could be used as cover), then there's no telling what kind of transfer fee he could raise - Pickford has just gone for £25m for crying out loud. Ideally I'd like us to sell Krul, sign Reina and have Darlow, Reina and Elliott as our 3 keepers for the coming season with Woodman poised to take Reina's place in that trio in one or two seasons' time.
I'd just like a fcking player to arrive. 6 1/2 weeks since the PL season ended (longer for us), just 5 1/2 weeks til the opening weekend and we've signed one, sub-£10m player, sacked a chief scout and have our local rag writing about how "Scientist" Stevie Nicks is going to change the face of scouting. He better hurry up, or have a time machine. Seriously, this has been an utterly dreadful close-season so far. We still have Colback, Diame and there's a contract offer on the table for Gouffran. Jesus wept. Consider this - the Mirror reported we had signed Lejeune on the 3rd of June. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-agree-87million-deal-sign-10553659 It then took a month - an entire goddam month - to sort it out. I dunno about you lot, but I have a massive sinking feeling. There's another thread about looking forward to the new season - I'm staring at it much like a bloke staring at the ground with a parachute that won't open.
I think you are hitting the panic button way too early. We have to wait for the big teams to decide who they want and we will pick up the scraps. Otherwise you will just sign a load of players in the 5m-12m bracket who might be good, but might not. You are sometimes better off waiting for the top clubs to get their first or second option, and the fall back 3rd or 4th choice suddenly develops an interest in playing for you. We shall see. I'm sure bids have been lodged and we now have to sit and wait.
Little bit worried myself but Im trying to judge it from sacking said chief scout. Maybe Carr was holding up the lejuene deal. Just tink that was the shift back to Rafa on transfer responsibility so I'm expecting some signings in the next 7 days or I'll join you in the dejection again
Yep to Anderlecht but will no doubt return. If it's to free up wages fair enough but, likes been said, he's coming into peak years soon so why not hang on another year with a loan and see where we're at. 5 mill is low for this lad unless there's performance clauses and sell on percentages
5m is good money for Darlow. Keepers don't mature until their early 30's in most cases. If I were Rafa, sent him out on loan til January and see how he's getting on....
Like the lad but not sure he's going to be really top level. Prefer to loan him out for now to see how he progresses but if sold would expect more than £5M tbh
Good thing you're not Rafa then. Darlow was excellent in the Prem at the end of 15-16 and had a very good championship campaign barring the odd error, and established himself as first choice keeper. There's absolutely no logic in throwing him out on loan.
Personally I think £5m is a decent price for him. He's nowt special. Rafa will have a plan if he sells him. I would agree loaning him is not the way forward.
