I can see Krul going and Reina, Eliot and Darlow as our 3 main keepers.

We have a fine tradition at Newcastle United of being equal opportunity employers for the less able.

Usually we employ them at Centre Back, but I don't see why we couldn't extend the policy to goalkeepers.

I would be happy with Pepe Reina. He brings more than ability to the table and wouldn't cost the earth although he'd be on a decent wage.

He'll be 35 in August. He's probably still pretty useful, but for how long? If we are going to invest in a keeper it might be better to look for someone with his best years ahead of him.

 

35 is fine for a keeper. If he was 5-10 years younger we'd be paying £15m+. Do i think Reina is better than what we have? Yes. Next.

 

We have the future in Woodman, hopefully

 

Woodman does sound good. However, next season we have much of a muchness in goal with Darlow, Sels, Elliot and Krul. I'd prefer to get rid of Krul, Elliot and Sels and get in one good keeper and have Woodman as our 3rd choice (or out on loan).

 

Reports now allegedly saying this is pretty much a done deal. Italian reports, I hasten to add.....

I still think it would be an excellent idea. Loads of experience and ability, brings learning and stability to a young GK pool; Darlow really needs someone to learn from, he's no De Gea (young, but good enough). Krul to go, Elliot third choice and another year of learning for Woodman. If the pool then stays like that, Darls eventually steps up and Woodman comes up to start playing first team. Happy with Reina.

 

Great signing for his experience alone.
Hopefully this signals the end of Timothy Krul. Showed promise when youngster but is seriously bang average. Darlow is a far better long term prospect.
