A very sad day, one of the greatest ever footballers has passed away at the age of 68 R.I.P. Johan Cruyff http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/35892775 please log in to view this image
RIP JC, with the antics of modern day footballers he will soon be turning in his grave! ( too soon?) Bah!
He was the catalyst that made Barcelona what they are today, both as a player originally, and then as their manager. There have been very few players who could be said to be football geniuses, but he truly was one of those few. A great football man. RIP Johan.
I cannot believe how few responses there are on this thread. Maybe all users were not born in this mans prime, but even so, the legend that was Cruyff should have trickled down to any genuine football fan.
Until very recently I have been occupied with a little local difficulty, having radiotherapy to the prostate. It's not a very big deal and, like Bill Wyman, I am expected to make a full recovery.
Good news then, CT. As sad as the news about Johan was, it was great to see him executing that amazing turn again, along with many other of his greatest exploits.
Saw him play for Barca at Portman Rd in 1977, Roger Osborne marked him out of the game... One of the all-time greats though, privileged to have seen him play.
Perhaps the most fitting homage was Harry Kane executing something similar to the rightly famous turn to score the first goal against Germany. Well done Harry - there were a lot of folks on here who said you'd never make it in football!
Certainly a sad day for football and he deserves all the plaudits and praise, but why stop a game to have a minutes silence/applause? Its all getting a bit silly now, I'm happy to have the tribute at the beginning of the game, or something at half time, but stopping a game after 14 minutes is going too far. I wonder what the next thing will be.....?
When Rooney dies, will everyone in Old trafford nip out and do the wild thing with an aging prostitute during halftime? Bah!
