The Chinese have established a new record of 1200 km for this, also after tests in the states its estimated that the minimum speed is 10,000 times the speed of light. Oh, if only true - the speed bit. The top speed for the universe is currently and probably will always be the speed of light. If you want to travel to the stars you'll need to fold space instead.
It's the signal that 'travels' rather than any matter. Makes super long range communications possible.
