    Queens Park Rangers v Reading
    Sunday 4th November 2012 - Kick off 1.30 pm
    Loftus Road
    Premier League

    Game Introduction

RFC AWAY - If you’re going and want to know more, see this great link about the stadium, travelling and food –
    http://www.footballgroundguide.com/queens_park_rangers

    A note about the ground

Address: Loftus Road Stadium, South Africa Road, London, W12 7PA
QPR are strong contenders for the league record of having had most ground moves in their existence – 15! Since 1963 they have played at Loftus Road, which can house 18,500 fans. Loftus Road is a football stadium located in Shepherd's Bush, London. It was originally the home stadium of Shepherd's Bush F.C., but became home to its most famous club for the first time in 1917 when English football team Queens Park Rangers moved in for the first of its three periods at the stadium. In 1981 the ground became the first stadium in British professional football to have an artificial pitch of Omniturf installed, which remained until 1988. The four stands are the Loftus Road End (often shortened to The Loft), Ellerslie Road Stand, South Africa Road Stand and the School End, which is used by away supporters.

    FORM GUIDE

    Table Positions:
    QPR 20th - 3 points (played 9 games)
    Reading 18th - 4 points (played 8 games)

    QPR Recent form:
It’s a similar story to Reading; several draws – Norwich, Chelsea & Everton, coupled with too many defeats. I’d dare a bet to say to that opening day 0-5 loss at home to Swansea did more damage than we might have thought back on that first day. It’s been a bleak October whichever way you look at it – just a single point out of a possible 12.

    Reading Recent form:
So it’s 8 without a win in the league, but half are at least draws so our goal difference negatives are less severe than some of the teams around us. However, although Reading CAN’T continue at this rate! Half the season with draws and the other half losses would see us finish on 19 points – absolute relegation certainties. The cup is a nice distraction to measure up to the big boys, and certainly caught our attention this week, but we HAVE to get a couple of victories in the league to buoy us up, and very soon!

THE BOSS – the current manager of QPR:
Leslie Mark Hughes, OBE (born 1 November 1963), is a former Welsh international footballer and the current manager of Queens Park Rangers having joined on 10 January 2012. As an international footballer, he made 72 appearances and scored 16 goals.

    OPPOSING FANS SECTION

    Rivalries:
    Chelsea, Fulham and Brentford ...

    Famous Fans:
Lots of famous names enjoy supporting Rangers in their spare time and they include:
Howard Antony - former East Enders actor (Alan Jackson); Bill Bailey – comedian; Martin Clunes – actor (Men Behaving Badly, Staggered); Ade Edmondson – comedian/actor; Robert Elms – DJ; Neil Fouldes - snooker player; Ashley Giles – cricketer; Wendy James - former singer with Transvision Vamp; Mick Jones - the Clash; The Libertines – group (and especially Pete Doherty); Glen Matlock - the Sex Pistols; Rodney Marsh - Sky Sports Presenter; Michael Nyman – composer; Robert Smith - the Cure; Leslie Thomas - author of The Virgin Soldiers; Alex Tudor – cricketer; Sir George Young; Tony Selby – comedian; Andrew Ridgely - ex Wham; Phil Collins – singer; Shane Ritchie – Eastenders; Alan Wilder - former member of Depeche Mode; Dennis Wise – footballer; Jamie Oliver - TV Chef; and Emily - Character from hit BBC comedy Little Britain.

    Nicknames and Mascots etc.
Several well-known cases here - Hoops, QPR, R’s, Super Hoops …
I’m not going to enter any ‘Hoops’ discussion today, it's already on a previous article, see next paragraph!
QPR had “Jude the Cat” as their official mascot. But, oh dear, looks like the poor thing got the sack in 2008, but then a vote was favourable on its re-introduction! What’s the latest, Rangers fans, who's actually the mascot now?

    Friendly Fan Feature
Once again, after the hard work, a reminder of daib0’s very own Essay on the ‘Real and Fake Hoops’- http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/170262-Essay-on-The-‘Real-and-Fake-Hoops’- got some nice comments back from the Rangers faithful too!

    MATCH DAY EXPECTATIONS

    Attendances:
QPR’s average at home this season is the lowest of the premier clubs this season – 17.196 – but there is not much to be done about it because they are already at 97.6% of capacity. In fact, their lowest attendance in the league was only some 600 less than this average.

    Squads and Team News:
Not available yet - please add any news in your posts and comments - one of the most important things to add here before kick-off!

    SCORE PREDICTIONS

    My own verdict:
Predictions for these types of game are SO difficult, they could go any way really. Still, given a bit of confidence for our league cup win recently at the same ground, I’m going for:
    Q.P.R. 0 Reading 2

    What do others say?
The Oddschecker site, listing nearly all the major betting companies, shows Reading are underdogs because we’re playing away from home – we’re about 3/1. No money worth putting on QPR, you won’t get much back, whilst a draw is also seen nearly at 3/1.

    FOR THE RECORD

    Last TWO Encounters

    Wednesday 26th September 2012
Capitol One League Cup – Round 3
    Q.P.R. 2 Reading 3

    Friday 4th February, 2011
    Championship
    Reading 0 Q.P.R. 1

    Head-to-head Reading and QPR

Played in total 82 times: 37 Reading wins / 27 QPR wins / 17 draws

Best Reading victory: March 1934 – Reading 5 QPR 0

    Best QPR victory: October 1960 – QPR 5 Reading 2 // October 2009 // QPR 4 Reading 1

    Also interesting: Feb 1924 – QPR 1 Reading 4 // Jan 1932 – Reading 3 QPR 2 // Aug 1938 – Reading 2 QPR 4 // Nov 1947 – Reading 3 QPR 2 // Nov 1954 – QPR 2 Reading 3 // Dec 1955 – QPR 3 Reading 3 // Aug 1961 – QPR 3 Reading 6 // Nov 1962 – QPR 3 Reading 2 // Apr 1964 – QPR 4 Reading 2 // Sept 1964 – Reading 5 QPR 3 // Jan 1965 – Reading 4 QPR 0 (League Cup) // Sept 2012 – QPR 2 Reading 3

    THIS DATE in history

Reading have played 17 times on this day throughout history, and our results read a credible: W9 D2 L6. But it was much better, because 4 of the defeats have come in the last 6 games, including last time out – a 0-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier.

And QPR? Better than Reading, they’ve played 12 times and only lost twice, though 6 were draws. The last time was also in 2006; a 4-2 win in the Championship at home to Crystal Palace, with goals coming from Smith (2), Lomas and Gallen. However, they won’t want to hear of a 0-7 drubbing by Barnsley in the 1950-51 season in Division 2!

For those who’d like to read a really detailed match presentation please pop over to the specialist Reading FC forum ‘Royals Rendezvous’ where you have even more sections covered (this present article is simply a resume) and many a photo up too … http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9748761/1

I do understand people's caution - my forum 'Royals Rendezvous' was actually formed when 50 of us more or less left the BBC 606 to start "RR" due to silly trolls/wums that our BBC mods were unable to address; but we've never had any problems since as an indepensent organization growing rapidly stronger, just needs a strong but fair mod team who actually apply the forum rules they set up. But give the benefit of the doubt, until proved wrong.
I can't see in this case what is offensive - either Reading or QPR could 'nick' this one, that's a fair reflection. I'm the first on RR to edit aggressive behaviour or bad language, but comments of chat and good banter ARE welcomed!
    I hope I haven't read this bad ...

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing offensive here. It's just that the poster seems to spend his time trying to wind up Rangers' fans. On to Sunday's match and I agree it could be close either way. We are holding our own in most matches and being let down by silly mistakes (both defensive & against Arsenal, a linesman's mistake). I'm not sure how Reading will react to yesterday's match but I'm confident we will turn the corner soon, hopefully on Sunday. You scored 5 against Arsenal which is worrying because you do seem to be a side that likes to attack, but on the other hand, your defense must be a more than a bit fragile at the moment. Should be a good game anyway.

A fair assessment indeed! The RFC defence is not up to it frankly though it pains me to say so; yet the attack IS of premier standard. The midfield just lacks energy and 'motor' energy so service to front men is not ideal - for all this I see quite a few high-scoring games up to the winter transfer window for us.
It will probably be quite nervy on Sunday; borth sides know what it's about. It could go either way, and by at least a clear two-goal margin according to who settles best. But I don't think it's at all definitive for the loser (if not a draw) - a number of other teams are not in fantastic shape either, and it shouldn't be that difficult to claw back points at this point of the season!

Agree bc7 that 'London's only/Bluzz' or whatever he calls himself now is a muppet. Remember he was at QPR in the 80's when Chelsea had 100,000 fans in our end and he remembers it when he was about 8 years old. <laugh> The bloke is a QPR stalker and needs to get a life.

    Anyway onto our game.

Can't see anything other than a QPR win. Reading's defence is too slow, the midfield is not good and the attack is average. Too many championship players for me. After that thumping from Arsenal reserves the other night they will be flat and if we get a quick goal i see them falling apart. Being 4-0 up at home a blowing it by 7 goals is the making of a relegation.
I know we are bottom and may sound confident but i have watched Reading this season and they really are a poor side. For some reason we have not really clicked but we have played some good stuff.
We need to positive and play 2 upfront. The speed of Cisse/Hoilet/SWP/Mackie/ will rip the Reading defence apart just like Spurs and Arsenal did.
    3-1 to the R's

I never know which Reading will turn up, and how much of the 90 mins they 'want' to turn up. If it's like most of Newcastle game or first half of Arsenal - great. But we know we have down moments during games, and we are getting punished. Can you do the same? Just have to wait and see. I honestly believe it's 50-50, but I don't see a draw ...

Interesting comments from a Liverpool fan? Funny i didn't think Adel,Fabio,Mbia,Diakite,Mackie,Faurlin,Traore,Hoylett were over 30? <doh> (where did he get his info from)? Maybe Liverpool could do with a few older players and maybe they won't look so bad? Agree we have a few players that are older, however 3 of them are Champions league winners, and league/cup winners. On another note Legs,Shore,Harte,Gorkss,Roberts are over 30 and pog/hunt 28/29 so i cannot see the problem?

One point is (what teams will turn up)? It will be interesting to see how Reading pick themselves up after the Arsenal game (esp Gorkss who is a shadow of his former self). And will they play us like they have in the past? That Pog always seems to score past us but Adel just loves scoring past Reading.

On paper we have a much better team and being at home should/will give us an advantage. I don't see it like the cup game as i am sure we will be up for this.
Both managers need the result and at the moment Hughes seems to be under a lot of pressure and needs the result.

Looking forward to Loftus Rd on Sunday and the club have been clever by only giving 1700 tickets to Reading (in the upper tier). I want to put this Reading/QPR thing to rest and by that i mean sending off's and old players coming back to the club. We have moved on and should see this as a game where we take 3 points. <ok>

I read "although this could be the game where QPR over 30's really get going" as a compliment actually, meaning when they click things will definitely look up.
I'm not sure how Reading will pick things up - Brian has never been so glum in a post-match interview, and Gorkss may be having a confidence crisis. Sounds stupid to say so, but we really haven't got much consensus on who are best XI really are, though some inclusions like McCarthy, MCCleary, Roberts are over 9 in every 10 opinions.
I still think it's totally open for Sunday, and I hope too that it's a clean game, without controversial decisions ...

nervous, my friend, it's not panning out at all the way we thought when the spring celebrations were going on! But it's still early days in a long season. Doing a tremendous lot of work on RR, it's all new stuff and new contacts this season of course.
I'm not really a top poster as you say, just try to follow what you say on your signature - no bull**** !!

In my opinion easily the most significant game this week end.An away win and I reckon Hughes is gone.A win for either side shakes it up at the bottom.I'm going for 1-1

agreed it's really important. There are no calls for McDermott's departure, but another loss would leave his position slighter weaker ...
