First guess - anything to do with the surname van Dijk (or van Dyke) ?

Perhaps we need to move on!

King Harold was portrayed in the Bayeux Tapestry having an arrow shot into his eye. James Thurber was shot in the eye with an arrow by his brother which caused him sight loss later in life.

An easier one: What WFC defender shared a surname with an Aston Villa goalkeeper?

If you mean over history (as opposed to at the same time) then was it Steve Sims ? Villa had a goalie called Nigel Sims in the 60s.

Sight loss later in life - I would have thought straight away.

    Dave Butler & Lee Butler?

That'll do, Cologne. I lived in Brum up until 63. My memory is Nigel Sims would be regarded as on the heavy side for a keeper these days!

Fair comment, BB, though it did deteriorate considerably in later life.

Cheers Theo. Which football club's original playing strip was modelled on shirts (and caps) originally designed for use in slaughterhouses in Argentina ? The strip has been loosely modelled on this ever since.

Not sure about the shirts, but am sure that applies to the the Leeds players of the 70s...:)

First clue on this. It has a slight Italian connection.

No takers for this ? Another clue - think of a biscuit named after an Italian, and it leads on from there.

Nottingham Forest? Their home kit was based on the uniform worn by Garibaldi & his men.

Although, thinking about it, Garibaldi wasn't actually Italian - he was French.

You've cracked it BB. Their home kit was based on the uniform of the Italian Legion, which Garibaldi led, in South America - their uniform consisted of shirts and caps made in Montevideo for use in Argentinian slaughterhouses. Nottingham Forest still have a room at the City Ground called the Garibaldi Room - apparently he was very highly seen in Britain at this time. He was born in Nice (which was not French at that time - belonged to Piedmont/Savoy, but became so later).

    Cheers cologne...

Sticking with the Nottingham Forest theme - what 'oddity' do they have in common with Manchester United and Bolton?

    Another clue needed...

They also share this with Norwegian clubs Stromsgodset IF and Mjondalen IF.
