Shouldn't we have played them last year but cancelled it because of the number of injuries we had or was that the year before
The 2nd game has been announced. Vs Bath away at Tweton on Tuesday 12th July (3 days after Sailsbury). 7:45pm kick off. http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/rovers-to-take-on-bath-city-in-pre-season-3111245.aspx
I dont necessarily agree with playing these type of sides pre season, with all due repect to them and I know it might put a few bob in their coffers and give their players a good work out but what does it actually do for us ? I reckon in the last two or three seasons we have had, and lets be honest here CRAP starts ! I am sure that if we matched up against teams from a higher level or even the same level during pre season it would put us in a much better condition for when the real stuff starts and especially so this summer following our elevation to Div 3.
I think these types of teams in the 1st few games of pre-season is ok. Its all about building up match fitness and nothing more. Then as pre-season progresses, the standard of oppsition should as well, so near the end of pre-season we should see us facing a couple of teams from the top 2 divisions. We usually get a tough game or 2. Wonder who we will get this pre-season?
I remember when Jerry Francis was manager and his pre season friendlies always seemed to be against non league sides and when we started the season we were on a winning streak and started the season winning.
I mentioned the same thing last season about these games and got a negative response thanks for saying the same thing that said I would of liked to of gone to the Salisbury game but I'm working that Saturday could of been nice day out as Salisbury is a nice place to visit.
But does it have to be against the same teams every season don't get me wrong I like to Mangotsfield to do well and especially Bath but blimey their is plenty of other local non league sides we could play . How about a little tour of Gloucestershire we could play Cirencester, Gloucester, and Cinderford
Best to do local teams. Imagine if we do Northern teams. That will be a lot of needless expense to the club. Also the players do so much travelling throughout the season, these local games is easier on them
