Begin tonight - against Crumlin United (who are they). Interesting notes: Sarr, Ceballos, And Stewart all start. 1-0 up through tony watt. Live stream below:
2-0. Crumlins keeper made a crummy (I'll apologise for nothing) mistake by dropping Ceballos' cross in to the goal. More shocking was Ceballos being trusted to take corners again.
We looked good against very poor opposition. Ahearne Grant impressed me - hope he breaks through this season. Listening to Olly Groome is unbearable.
Have seen the word ''promotion'' used too often since our win over the emphatic Crumlin United. Let's see what state our squad is in come September 1st.
Anybody who believes the result of that game or indeed the performance of players in it has any bearing on our prospects for promotion this coming season is either trying far too hard to be optimistic (possibly through fear of being labelled a moaner or some other silly name) or they have simply unplugged their brain and are in denial. Some of the other, more difficult pre-season matches (Ipswich and Norwich in particular) might give us an insight into the state and mettle of our squad, but even they are not really reliable measures. The East Anglian Championship teams are unlikely to show the same competitive edge Charlton will meet on and after August 5th. Why should they? They are just warming up after all. We would all rather win a game than lose it, but there isn't much to be learned from a 5-0 stroll. Only league points will count as evidence that things are better now than they were a year ago.
The Limerick result is much more useful than the Crumlin game - it seems our defence was put to the test in the second half. Until things go wrong, weaknesses can go undetected and unaddressed. If the lessons of this defeat are learned then perhaps Charlton can avoid losing matches after taking a two goal lead during the season, when it is going to matter.
Playing Texeria at full back was never going to work. shows how desperate and weak the squad really is. Have we actually spent money in this window so far; no! You only get what you pay for in this world. Going to be a long and difficult season.
Just caught up on last nights result - Tex at full back? Did that actually happen? If so, that makes you want to laugh, but then it's not funny as its increasingly likely we go in to the season devoid of a squad again. Then we get injuries and we have our excuses, when in reality we had to power to prevent that in the summer.
I'll admit I did not watch the game, so my original comment was a general observation only. I had assumed KR was playing as many of his team as possible in their natural best positions...
