Pre-match 'Burn The Sun' event in Hull, Feb 4th

I'm helping a mate organise a ‘Burn The Sun newspaper’ event in the Queens Gardens bowl, in the city centre, ahead of your visit to the KC on Feb 4th, as a statement about truth and honesty, and about rejecting an establishment that uses lies to divide us, typified by this vile rag that calls itself a newspaper.

He's expecting two campaign groups from Liverpool to be involved – Justice For The 96, and Total Eclipse of The Sun, and it would be great to see as many of you there as possible; we see it as a great opportunity for us to unite behind a common idea.

The event will probably start around Noon and finish about 1.45/2.00pm, so people can then go to the game. There will be various speakers, live music, and – obviously - the ceremonial burning of the rag itself.

Would you have to buy it in bulk to be able to burn it?

 

So we'd all buy one, hence they make money... then we burn.

Need to get them free somehow tbh.

 

Could always burn their offices and printing works instead.

I haven't got a ticket for the game, but I live in York and will drive across if I can get the day off. Murdoch is the Anti-Christ, and I find it bizarre that the web is crawling with nonsense about conspiracies about the 'Liberal Elite' when the real danger is there in front of them.

You just knew he'd wriggle out of all that phone-tapping, police-bribing and judge-intimidating Inquiry a few years back. All our major parties like the crusty bits off his ringpiece. ****.

 

The burning would be symbolic, more than anything else. I think getting hold of one copy to burn on stage would be well worth the sacrifice.

It's quite probable that Hull City Council's Events Team would stipulate that a mass burning would not be allowed anyway, on health and safety grounds.

 

Surely no need to buy any?
I'm sure it would be easy enough to ask around and find people with some old copies of the rag. Sadly there are plenty of people who are unaware of, or don't care enough about, the damage that the gutter press does to our society.
Failing that, someone could print off a few mock-up covers or something.
It's a symbolic gesture, so it doesn't need large numbers of the genuine article.

Buy one copy of The Rag and lots of other papers. Copy the front cover of the rag and put it on the others.

Just pick up a used copy from the General Chat board.

 

Its been free in my local garage a few times. Could just take the whole pile and burn it. Bonus of those s*n copies poisoning the minds of more people.

 

Forgot to say Polly, it's so good to see people like yourself and your fellow supporters get behind something like this. The misinformation still being bandied about it astonishing. While there's events like this rag burning you're organising, it makes us Liverpool supporters feel less alone in the struggle.
