Power Rankings: Liverpool lose ground; Everton close in Date published: Monday 6th February 2017 10:08 Arsenal lost ground on the top four, Everton made hay, while Sunderland leapt off the bottom and into 15th place in our Power Rankings. Arsenal’s predictable away defeat at the champions-elect Chelsea sees them slip further behind the top four, while Antonio Conte’s men look home and hosed. We can surely crown them now. Everton’s bid for a top-four place continued with a powerful showing as they hammered a brittle Bournemouth side, while Sunderland are off the bottom with a maximum seven-point haul after smashing Big Sam’s Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Middlesbrough, Leicester and Swansea are all joint-bottom and prop up the rest. Could the champions be relegated? In Power Rankings, we award points from 0.5 to 7, decided by an algorithm based on bookmaker odds and winning margins. It rewards teams scoring lots of goals and also those defying expectations but sees odds-on favourites penalised for sneaking past inferior opponents by the odd goal. Everton – 4pts: Had less possession than Bournemouth but scored with six of their 10 shots on target. Chelsea – 3pts: Given them the title now. Looked like champions as they brushed off Arsenal. West Brom – 3pts: Had little possession but looked more dangerous than Stoke and deserved the win.
