    Socialist Tory me Spurf. Teach 'em how to look after themselves. Someone somewhere once said, 'give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for life'. Too bloody true.

    Give a beggar a hand out, he'll be begging the next day, what's the point in that? When he doesn't get a hand out he'll starve. Give a Monkey too many biscuits for too long and he'll get too fat to climb a tree and pick bananas. Stop giving him biscuits and he'll starve because he won't be able to feed himself. You can do more harm than good. Cue the Welfare State.........but lets not go there.

    Next project is big one: give a man a car battery and he'll have electricity till the battery runs flat, but teach a man to build a micro hydro-electric scheme, and half the village will have eletricity for life. I've got a local chap interested who will do the labour and the rest is going to be a bit of a scrapyard challenge, but we've got plenty of that on the mine. I've got people who can weld, mechanics, electricians, chippies to do the formwork, steel fixers, all for the cost of a few beers. The design is up to me, wish me luck. I've got a book on it with engineering designs and design calculation examples etc. We've got mountain streams that run 24/7/365 with the potential of over 100 m head in places. What could be simpler? (anyone with experience in micro hydro-electric schemes please PM me, any help is welcolme).

    caught on camera at the end of the match,
    and then shown on national tv for the rest of the evening's news/sports bulletins!
