Actually I thought he did fit the profile: PL experience mid twenties (youngish) English Keen to prove his worth Took a wage cut to play in Italy On a free All that said, there is much competition and pay cut or not, I don't think we will stretch to match other offers or him to stoop to our offer because he believes we would be best for him. But you never know.
Get him on a free, sell him for £2m at the end of the season - that, as I understand it, is the Pozzo model. The question then becomes, how likely is it that his value can be increased. To get the money he has to be on a fairly long contract with reasonably high wages. If they cannot get a transfer fee then, overall, they have lost on the deal quite heavily.
Why would he want to take a pay cut and join Watford? If he is available on a free transfer he would also command a large signing on fee. With no disrespect to us the gulf in clubs of Manchester City's like and us is huge. There are many "established" Premership clubs that would be more appealing than us. His value has not gone up whilst playing in Italy has it?. He is an ex-international who perhaps has seen his value already peaked. So if he joined us how would he fit the Pozzo model of bringing on a little known talent and selling on for profit?. As has been mentioned his wages, any signing on fee and or compensation to City if he is out of contract and does not want to sign a new one would make that in its self an unviable proposition, so no sorry he does not fit the profile. Someone like Ben Watson, English, Premeriship experience and a non International is far more likely a fit for us. And if you listen to the media "continental players" are apparently cheaper on wages and there are many of those with Premeirship experience. I think also we may shop for players who are at clubs that will be relegated and who's clubs would like to unload so as to reduce their wage bill.
You mean like Danny Ings? Could just imagine Deeney, Ings, Vydra, Ighalo cutting a swathe through Premiership defences. Pity it looks like Liverpool have got him on a free...
"WE ARE THE POZZO FAMILY...WE DO NOT DO OUR LAUNDRY IN PUBLIC...WHO WE WANT WILL BE ASSIMILATED... SPECULATION IS FUTILE..."
What I require is for some clever whizz to do a picture of Gino Pozzo in a Watford shirt as Locotus of Borg (à Jean Luc Picard) or something of that ilk.... Yup, I have indeed been in the pub!!
Its only the fans that talk about the "Pozzo" model . the family will do what they see as the best to keep us in the EPL and not just to sell .We was told that they turned down a large off for Troy because we needed him to try and get us into the EPL They could say to a player that they want if he plays well in Spain and then go to Itay and if that player did very good he could go to the EPL with Watford . Im sure that if they can pull it of then they will .
Brian Its the Pozzo's that talk about their model as have Scott Duxbury etc. We witnesed first hand their commitment in giving Watford every opputunity to make it to the EPL this season and Troy staying with us on an improved contract was part of that. What they said to him in private this season will I guess at the moment stay private but probably he was given an assurance about being allowed to move this close season if things did not work out. Also with the attacking options they gave us bar a serious injury to Troy they were confident in him scoring many goals again this season, which would I imagine cement his transfer value.
There model (and it works) is to bring on and develop the younger players and make the big clubs of Europe play for them .Or play good price for a player to play in Italy and if they dont play to that standard ship them off to Spain and Watford ..As we now have the potential to be the big earner for the group ,Then they could pay good money for some players that want to play in the EPL and then get them to play in Italy or Spain How many or our players have come to us not from the group with the view of us improving them and selling them on .?

watfordfc linked with ex-Porto and Steau Bucharest defender Cristian Sapunara, and Udinese winger, on loan at Konyaspor, Gabriel Torje. Sapunara is a 31-year-old who can play both as a right back or centre back and has played Champions League football. http://t.co/MgzB4fYOpM Torje is a 25-year-old Romanian international winger owned by Udinese but loaned at Granada and Konyaspor. http://t.co/mQuBjrODCA
This one has legs, think this will happen: Watford linked with summer move for NAC Breda winger Adnane Tighadouini http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015...d-with-summer-move-for-nac-breda-winger-adna/
I would desire all our signings to have legs. He already has the correct colours on his shirt even when they are in a different patern.
