Carers that travel to homes are on not much more than NMW and they try not to allow you to get to NVQ3 where there is a pay boost...........Oh and their hourly rate is calcluated by the home visit time and ignoring travelling time...........oh and they treat you like a criminal every time an old dear thinks a necklace or money has gone missing.

That's why my missus left it. Tempted in by the great offers of advancement. Got to NVQ2 but then lots of stalling over the next level. Was suspended without pay (not a fixed contract = zero hours) three times from accusations from patients which ended up being twice non existent and once someone else.

And they paid 24p per mile petrol which only just matched the petrol cost at the time so no allowance for wear and tear or increase to insurance for using your car for work.

She worked out with travel time she was getting paid £4 per hour. She was getting paid the NMW of £6 for packing eggs and chucked it in.

And for IdesOM. She left there in 2009!!! After 3 years working like a slave.

Yes, fairly systematic widespread abuse in this area over the last few years. My daughter did some care work (residential) at weekends until recently, she thinks if you pay so little you can expect little from your employees. She did report many examples of kindness and people working above and beyond though, which rarely gets attention in this sector these days.

Politicians, and to some extent professional bodies, have created a confused system of social/nursing/residential/community care where lines between are blurred, roles undefined and responsibilities vague. My sister is a care home inspector but still doesn't understand that the staff in these homes don't DISPENSE medication, my efforts to educate her are not welcome :)

Article 50 was triggered in March IIRC so if i understand correctly next month we will be 1/4 of the way through our 2 year Brexit negotiation time limit.

I have the utmost confidence they will get everything done.

Not one youth jail in England and Wales is now deemed safe after a “staggering rise” in violence over the past year, the prison watchdog has warned.

Easy access to drugs and soaring numbers of inmates locked up for well over the recommended period have also contributed to a “vicious cycle” in which emphasis on rehabilitation has declined, Peter Clarke, HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, said.

And who was the Home Secretary for 6 years presiding over this calamity. Our 'one nation' prime minister. Still blundering on proving that if you identify the nasty party you know how to be part of it...

According to my MP he's a WYSIWYG. A charming man; great vocabulary; intellect of a retarded snail. So yes, he would clearly be an improvement on St T

Jeremy Corbyn Demands Theresa May Put An End To Medical Tests For Trans People

Theresa May is under pressure to change equality law so trans people are not forced to undergo medical tests to prove their gender identity.

Jeremy Corbyn said the Prime Minister could offer the DUP - who have failed to back same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland - a free vote on the legislation to get it through Parliament.

He also called on her Government to offer a formal apology to men with historical gay sex convictions - going further than the posthumous pardon they were granted in January

I thought you had a brain IMP. There are better Tories out there than this man. Get Alastair Campbell to lead the Tories and lash some common sense into their brains, adopt more EU friendly policies, throwing Brexit into the trash can in the process, then we could begin to like the Tories again. At the moment they are intent of ripping up the nation, turning fellow Brit against fellow Brit with their divide and rule policies.

How is Chris Evans, a very mediocre radio broadcaster, and appalling TV presenter, worth more than the best sports commentator on the BBC and presenter of World Football on the World Service (Alan Green)?

I'm really tempted to sign it, there is no way that he will appeal to enough of the country to get elected as PM.

Love the way the government has raised the future pension age mins after the last PM questions this term, and under the handy smoke screen of the BBC pay release.

After kicking the pay review panels likely to demand above 1% increases into the long grass this week it really does seem like frantic, out of touch thrashing around at No10.
