I must admit to knowing virtually nothing about Channel Island politics.. what relationship do they have with Westminster and our laws?

Jersey has its own laws, but most of them are tweaked versions of English and Welsh law. I don't know if you scrolled down to the comments, but the most convincing argument against it is that we should only have representation if we were UK taxpayers, which we're not.

    Not to mention for idiots.

In these worrying times of the stupidity of Brexit, the probable break up of UK, the UK/North Korea nuclear tension, the rise of neo-Nazism, what do our idiot politicians fret over?

In theory, no but in practice, yes as explained accurately in this paragraph from Wikipedia.

"Jersey is not part of the UK, and has an international identity separate from the UK, but the UK is constitutionally responsible for the defence of Jersey. The definition of the UK in the British Nationality Act 1981 is interpreted as including the UK and CI and IoM together. The European Commission have confirmed in a written reply to the European Parliament in 2003 that Jersey is within the Union as a European Territory for whose external relationships the UK is responsible. Jersey is not fully part of the EU but has a special relationship with it, notably being treated as within the European Community for the purposes of free trade in goods."

Given the statement that I have highlighted, it does raise the question as to why could those living in Gibraltar vote in the referendum but those living in CI couldn't?

South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay along with his agent and campaign director are to stand trial next May for knowingly making false election expenses declarations. I had thought when this first came up that it would a quick trial and a smack on the wrist for being careless. Seemingly this trial is expected to last for six weeks which rather moves it on from the trivial.

Just read on the Ipswich board a post about the pig's ear the Tories are making of initiating brexit.

This made me smile! :- The whole thing's been a total feck up. Dave's legacy makes interfering with a pigs head look like one of his better decisions!

I would like to see a debate, but would both agree?

As a matter of fact on the NHS, the surgery that my mother-in-law used to visit has just lost two doctors who have returned to their home countries in the EU, and the one remaining decided he had had enough, so retired. They jointly looked after 10,000 people, so there were too many to send to other practices, and no doctor wanted to take it on. The problem has been resolved for now by employing three locums supplied by Virgin Healthcare.

Hawkings, a well known Labour supporter, is entitled to his political views, surely they are not so weak they cannot stand up to being challenged?

One of the main news items today is about faulty white goods in homes. Following a fire in a tower block in 2106 a series of recommendations were sent to government about recalling some items that were unsafe. So far nothing has been done, and the government say they will respond later this year. Since the letter was sent we have seen the fire in Grenfell Tower started by a faulty fridge freezer, and this time lives were lost. Is it good enough for any government to sit on safety information when one of their most important jobs is to safeguard lives? I also wonder if we get more deregulation additional unsafe products will find their way in to homes.
