Pochettino to Barca ?

    Barca have come out and said that they are 'big fans' of Pochettino and would like somebody who is 'close' to the club to manage after Enrique leaves. Pochettino spent a decade in Barcelona as a player and manager for Espanyol and apparently still owns a home in there and is seen as an ideal candidate.

    He's just signed a new contract with Spurs, but that could just be Levy hedging his bets and ensuring that Spurs are compensated should he leave. Spurs fans will be desperate for him to stay, but Poch has shown that he has little loyalty to a club, when a bigger one comes knocking, and they don't come any bigger than Barca.

    How would he fair at Barca ? Personally I think until he actually wins a major trophy and can consistently take his teams into the Champions League, without bombing at the first hurdle, then he represents a big risk for Barca to take.

    Thoughts ?

    Didn't we discuss this the other day? I can distinctly remember you posting about it yourself, in fact.
    Bit dead on the Arsenal board, Piskie?

    Barcelona will probably go for someone with ties to the club, as they normally do.
    Pochettino played for and managed Espanyol for about 13 years and 400-odd games.
    That's like Liverpool wanting Jamie Carragher and bringing in Gary Neville.

    Obvious Wum, particularly as the OP has already said elsewhere that he thinks they'll go for Sampaola.

    Seriously. Possible, but unlikely. Firstly, Barca and Espanyol hate each other - especially Espanyol hates Barca!

    Secondly, I think they'll look for somebody with more top level experience. Although they might be tempted by Pochettino's record of bringing through good players from the youth teams.

    Sampaoli seems to be their first choice, be it sounds as though he's already ruled himself out. There's some talk of Koeman going there, but he's even more of a risk than pochettino to be honest.

    Pretty sure it will be someone else going to Barca .... last rumour I heard was Pochettino was going to Arsenal .
