Based solely on their actual performances in a Charlton shirt this season. I am not including loans for obvious reasons other than Rudd, whom Robinson has publicly said he wants: Rudd - get rid. Good, but not that good. Errors have cost us around 6 goals already, starting with Walsall away. Scarce money better spent elsewhere. Give Phillips his chance next season as No.1. Solly - keep. Mr Charlton. You only realise how good he is when you see what replaces him. Page - get rid. Looks a wrong 'un. Needs to learn how to defend and how to hold a defensive line - but not with us. Chicksen - get rid. Anonymous footballer, just not very good at any facet of the game. Pearce - keep. Captain next season. Badly missed since Dec. Bauer - keep. Pair him with Pearce next season at CB. Teixera - get rid. His performances have got worse at a lower level. Slow & clumsy. Accident prone even in L1. Konsa - keep. But highly unlikely. Young POTY. Aribo - keep. Needs a season under his belt. Could be anything with the right development. Jackson - keep, on the staff. One season too many as a player. Crofts - get rid. See Jackson, one season too many, bypassed so often including when coming on yesterday. How many good games has he had this season ? Holmes - keep, if we can. POTY. Blades fans were drooling over him yesterday, and Wilder bid for him last summer. Championship player. Watt - get rid. Just doesn't do enough of anything as a striker. Novak - get rid. As with Watt, only even slower. Looks like injuries have caught up with him. Adds nothing to the side. Magennis - keep. We badly miss the Josh of the first half of the season. A great player when he is on his game. By my reckoning, of our 15 regular players we should keep 7 and get rid of 8 this summer. Thoughts and disagreements ?
I can't argue with any of that. Players have massively underperformed this season. Get players in with real fighting spirit and the right character.
Assuming all the loanees go back we've got a tiny squad left. Foster-Caskey has the talent but but not the attitude for a CM. Rebuilding the squad looks too big a job for Mouth Almighty, and with no takeover and Roland still in charge next season will be a car crash. So fingers crossed for the takeover, and the new owners get the managerial appointment right, hopefully KR will be replaced immediately.
Forgot Forster-Caskey , easily done on his performances for us to date. Prediction - if he stays with us, he will make Kashi look like the Duracell bunny.
Tough Q as we don't know who we will line up. Example, I thought Fox moving on would be good for all parties - but then Page turns up as his replacement.
Someone on CL said they were down the front of the West at one home game, where Page scuffed a pass straight out of touch. Robinson turned his back to the pitch and said to one of his assistants "and he played for West Ham". So he seems yet another example of a player who wasn't scouted properly, just foisted on the club by some anonymous person, although we can guess. Unless we go back to the old system whereby the scout recommends a player, the manager checks him out thoroughly then we sign him we'll keep signing duds.
He played 22 games on loan for a poor Coventry side. When we signed him, the Coventry fans were not complimentary about him. Yet according to Robinson at the time, we beat off a host of clubs to sign him...
i wouldnt be sad if they released the entire first team squad (apart from solly). we're 15th in L1, which factually means that the players are not good enough for the position the fans expect the club to be at. on the other hand, the owner and ceo strive for failure, so i guess half of them would be good enough to keep; just to balance the expectations of fans and owner (i.e. lower mid table).
Agree with you if Chicksen is only a squad player next season, simply because you can guarantee his replacement would be even worse.
Chicksen would be fine in the Evina role, I agree. Just doubt we will have a Wiggins in front of him though
Unfortunately, there is the whole root of the problem. Konsa and aribo may well be sold off if the price is right, and the money made available to KR to replace them will probably be enough for another Page. Some of the players may well be not fit for purpose, but if RD and the dreadful Meire are still in control, we can guarantee that we will have another window involving three reasonable players and a bunch of stocking fillers. We'll have to hope for new owners and hopefully a new scout with a bit of savvy. sadly we need what we already had before RD arrived and began his reorganisation/demolition job.
Look at the most recent, January transfer window. Byrne (as a winger) & F-C have been 0.5 of a success each. Matividi, Page and de Silva haven't worked out. That is a 20% success rate, being generous.
