Saw this today.... NUFC have had 2 penalties this season. Brighton 9 and reading 11. Just bad luck or something more?
Probably this for the lack of NUFC pens. Don't recall being incensed by any decisions apart from Forest. I do think the refs favour those clubs fighting to keep up. Brighton in particular get a lot of soft decisions.
I was just thinking about this and something does not quite stack up in all seriousness. We have had 1 this season and rank bottom of the penalties awarded. As you say Reading and Brighton lead the way which is very odd. It could be linked to styles of play, but I would have thought that statistically we should have more than we currently do have because of us scoring most/ most shots etc meaning we must be in the area more than most teams etc. Interestingly, Guess who have conceded the least penalties..... You guessed it...., BRIGHTON!
Yeah, we don't get penalties - we score when we get in the box. +36 GD is a better stat than number of pens awarded!
Fulham springs to mind without too much brain strain. Plus we are the Leagues top scorers ( I think) which means somebody must be in the box at some stage of the game and probably, guesswork on my part, means we have spent more time in the opposition box than just about every other team in the division. PS Thanks Ginola for making my points. Note to self: read all of posts before replying.
The only explanation is that it is a global conspiracy between the FA, all the other teams on the planet, the referees and the illuminati.
You have Mitrovic up top who gives more fouls away than he wins - maybe because he's young, he's not mastered how to use his body to position himself to win them in the same way the experienced Murray & Hemed have who are both similar strikers. Pretty sure Gayle has a bit of a reputation for diving, or did when he was at Palace at least, probably hasn't helped things. Be interesting to see stats, but Brighton have a lot of touches in the opposition box, the most touches, the more chance of someone making a badly timed tackle. Players like Knockaert, Murphy & March all have very quick feet. Knockaert is probably one of top 3 fouled players in the league so no coincidence that he may win a fair few pens from it as well. Similarly, have the 2nd best defensive record in the league, hinting that opposition don't get into box very often so less chance to give away pens. I'm guessing you guys haven't given away many pens this year either
I prefer the southern conspiracy theory myself. I think that most of the refs for Brighton games are from down South - although it would be interesting to see stats.
Hopefully a few pens with red cards in the Huddersfield reading game tonight. A fiery 8 a side draw would be nice
It's the opposite to the PL where Man Utd famously seemed to get more questionable ones because they were so dominant Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
