Nowadays, Bridgend, 100% owned by the Ospreys, has the highest approved capacity of the grounds mentioned
Yep. Done wonders for the national team but it's just not the same as the old Prem of the old. I never truly grasped regional rugby but I do take some interest in the Ospreys now and then.
To be honest I don't know enough about it to know why it works well for the national team and why such a system couldn't have been implemented with the old teams, so I can't really say much about it. But the old Ponty, Swansea, Neath and Llanelli were so much better to better to follow. Despite playing with the popular and successful Irish regions the Pro 12 doesn't really excite me. And the Welsh teams are so far behind on the European stage, yet the Irish teams do alright. We are a rugby nation yet we've had to sacrificed the bread and butter of club rugby for what? Just the national team? Could've we had success at club level as well as the national stage? I love rugby but it's frustrating that I have become a fair weather supporter and only look forward to the internationals.
I suspect money is/was the underlying reason for the change. The WRU could "afford" to help finance 4 teams - there wasn't enough cash to go round 10 or 12. Even today, the 4 Welsh Regions are at a significant disadvantage in terms of playing budgets compared with not only the English & French, but also the Irish & Scots.
There is silly money around I read today that George Ford turned down £650k a year at Sale for £450k a year at Leicester so he is obviously not short of a bob or two!
Scotland were superb today, turning over Ireland who I thought would win the championship. Laidlaw and Hogg were superb. Come on the French now
I won a bet at half time. £50. It was accidental as it was meant to be FT result. Still though. Can't complain.
Can whoever does the TV rights for the 6 nations, please never ever give any to ITV again, the coverage is pathetic and going to adverts right after the national anthems does my ****ing head in. It is spoiling the 6 nations no more ITV please.
Not sure I think he would do anything for the Ospreys, an ok payer no better than what we have, but I suppose we are a little light there.
I understand that assuming a deal can be reached, he will be coming. Owen Watkins is likely to make the Wales squad if he comes back firing on all cylinders, Spratty is getting on & Josh may not be here, so I'm told. Therefore, need someone - and he's Welsh.
Just feels like a bit of a backward step. we have had a good season and we need to improve not lessen the side. Still will have to wait and see, just never been impressed with him even when he was in the Welsh squad.
