Good game, got away with it first half, controlled it second. Shame it ended on a brain fart. 1-1-1 damn it.
Fantastic achievement given that the Lions are very much a scratch side. Gatland & his coaching team did wonders to create a 23 man squad capable of matching the World Champions in their own back yard - a squad that played a total of 10 games, compared to the '71 Lions who had 26 in total basically a season.
they couldn't help themselves, they had to say how good Farrell was and without him kicking they wouldn't have drawn, to be fair Gatland told them he was poor fist half.
Stuart Barnes is a prick as a commentator. Farrell is a good place kicker but that's all he's got. Better and more ambitious team selection and we could have one the series.
Good to see AWJ leading the way (equal with Faletau) with the highest number of tackles for the Lions - and he wasn't on as long as Faletau. 9 consecutive Lions tests in the Professional era - what a player!
And most called for him not to be involved in the tests as he wasn't good enough. mind you that was mostly one eyed English fans, I am glad they did well Gatland got so much criticism for his selections and his captain selection. well he didn't do to bad in that series and his last. Fancy that 2 lions series and he hasn't lost either of them.
McGeechan won in Australia in 1989 & won in South Africa in 1997, but lost against the ABs in 1993. I suspect that if Gatland coaches the Lions in 2021, he would lead them to victory in South Africa to become arguably the best Lions Coach ever. However, the chances are that he has passed the audition in NZ and is in pole position to replace Hansen after the 2019 RWC.
I forgot that Geech also coached the 2009 Lions when they lost 2-1 to the Boks. So, percentage wise, Gsts has the superior record.
