Anybody who has not served would not understand ,some things you want to remember and some you cannot forget.
I read tomorrow, but still, great news! Too bloody long inside! The Ministry of Defence should hang it's head in shame!!!
I don't think they had much choice in the matter once it was out on the social media wider world. Whoever released it caused this problem.
Totally disagree mate. That's why I said they hung him out to dry. They didn't look at any other options. He was the scapegoat for the media to cover their own **** ups!
I think all the evidence against him was contained in the pictures and commentary on the release helmet-cam. The numnut who didn't wipe the evidence at the end of patrol followed by the one who released did Marine A no favours. The MoD could just not cover this up.
His unit was in one of the most dangerous places in the country, so much so that they'd been isolated for several months and under continuous attack. All flights into the base for non-combat elements of the battalion were suspended because it was just too dangerous. The guy was expected to lead from the front, protect and guide young lads, many of whom were on their first tour. That recording should have been "handled" some better way.
I am not discounting the danger or stress involved for those lads and will stick with my original point of social media driving the events that led to the Court Martial.
I agree with your last point mate. My point was that it could have been nipped in the bud before it got out of hand.
Somehow the SAS seem to be above such witch-hunts yet I believe that their 'modis operandi' seems to be what this poor, overstressed, under-appreciated soldier was sent down for following. I was put out at the lack of protection given to him by his Officers. I wonder if this had been some Captain, would the outcome have been the same? (I should add that I have no personal knowledge about The S.A.S. I only know what I have read and have been told by people who have crossed paths with them, albeit many years ago.)
I was injured during the Falklands war, I tripped over the coffee table watching it ! (Ritch, Bottom)
We did a fair bit of work for them in Hereford when they had recruits in. They used to use us to get them when they were on E&E. We always caught them & we'd hand them over to them lads. I don't know what happened to them after that. They'ed be interrogated I think but the SAS lads never really talked much.
Not especially. You just fell into the trap of being the same old stereotypical old man who's complained about generations after him since the dawn of time.
Absolutely not, that would be terrible imo. We need to create a country where young people are creative and inventive. Mopping them up and shouting at them would just create a bunch of disfunctional young men with a penchant for violence. If young men & women are criminals then punish them through the justice system. Soldiers need to be dedicated volunteers who want a career in the forces, not a bunch of reluctant conscripts.
Personally I think making further education affordable to the working class would yield much better results than national service.
I always thought they took away two of the best years of my life 18 to 20 , yes there were good times but they were outweighed by the bad , imagine if you would standing in front of a little cockney lance jack and he said " You are a nig nog what are you " to which I had to reply " I am a nig nog corporal" that was because I had not got a haircut as I had one the day before
I think you will find the parents of the kids you describe are generally ****ing stupid , gormless, useless, boring and soft as ****e
