That 15 minute blitz effectively saved us from relegation, launching a run of 5 straight home wins under Sparky...
51 years ago today Rodney Marsh made his home debut in a 6-1 win over Millwall in the old 3rd Division scoring twice. In goal for Millwall that day was Alex Stepney who had commented on how poor English keepers were and that he'd never conceded more than two goals in any game! Millwall fans had tried to get the game abandoned by invading the pitch. Still the greatest try I've ever seen. Every time I watch it I get goosebumps. Those side steps by Phil Bennett were sublime. What a side Wales had then and what a side the Barbarians were then too.
Absolutely, I remember watching that match on TV and what is often overlooked because of that try is the fact it was a fantastic game of rugby with everything that epitomises the spirit of the Ba-Ba's. This is highlights of the match and some of the play is incredible but NZ played their part as well. At 3 mins 20 secs on the tape is a try that was disallowed for a forward pass right at the end that would have rivalled the Edwards try, David Duckham's side-stepping was brilliant as he played the game of his life and he made another try later in the game with some twinkle-toed mastery...
