Oldham Athletic have confirmed they have made approaches for strikers Cody McDonald and Clayton Donaldson, reports the BBC.

McDonald, aged 25, is on Norwich City's books but bagged 25 goals in a loan spell at League Two side Gillingham last season.

Crewe's 27-year-old forward Donaldson scored 29 goals on his way to being named League Two player of the year.

Manager Paul Dickov told the club website: "I am not stupid and realise that goal scorers of their calibre are going to attract a lot of interest."

Dickov is eager to bolster his forward line after losing several strikers. The Latics have currently got just Warren Feeney, Reuben Reid and new non-league signing Matt Smith as out-and-out attacker in the squad.

Dickov added: "I have spoken to both, but there are a lot of clubs in for them.

"If it is purely down to money, then they are not my type of player.

"I want footballers who will buy into what we are trying to achieve here."
