Just two points between the leaders now. Was last years race the firs or among the first races of the higher tyre pressures? I can't recall, last year Mercedes were nowhere but i can't imagine this will be the case here this time. This one is interesting... well right up until nobody can pass anyone in the race that is. Ricciardo must have a chance no?
interesting ferrari approach. go on fastest tyres most. they barely have any other typres going for 3 practices and quali. I note that haas is following along with that plan too.
Ferrari gave up on this season many races ago, pure aggressive stance on the last few races to eek out what they can.
One of my favourite GPs of the year. RedBull have got to be in with a shout here and interested to see how McLaren get on.
I think Mercedes know why they lost last year and will not make the same mistake again. I'm hoping that someone else makes a race of it.
Totally agree. Apologies for this public declaration, but I have found the Personal Messaging Service to be of little use to invigorate basic moderation of this site. Come what may, it is the reason I am making this comment in the public domain, rather than expecting a response from a PM. What is needed is some form of moderation which encourages an 'up-to-date' feel. Currently – and for at least the last year or so – this, in my view, has been lacking. (It may also account for the disappearance of previously prominent members, and is certainly the reason behind my own, temporary disappearance). It is not my intention to single out individuals. Not at all. However, what is clearly needed is some regular attendance from at least one individual who has the power to organise the basics within a reasonable time-frame, such that a visitor finds an easily navigable, up to date feel. First practice is only hours away and yet this thread has not hit the headlines! What is going on?!?!
Rosberg has put in a 1:46.8 on soft tyres, and is within 8 tenths of Verstappen. I wonder if he might look to do less stops and go long this weekend- we know Merc are very good on medium tyre so will they go the long game this weekend to offset he outright Red Bull pace?
They certainly don't look in bad shape this year do they. Hopefully it's a good fight between the 3 front teams and that McLaren and Torro Rosso can make use of their good chassis to capitalise where possible.
Mixed feelings about practice, Grosjean and Rosberg binning it. Hamilton hydraulic issues and Rosberg terminal brakes. Ferrari getting clean laps in. But it seems that Mercedes can go as equally as fast as the lesser teams on the slower rubber.
The way Mercedes are completely taking the piss on SLOWER rubber this weekend suggests to me that the 'conspiracy' ideas of Bernie sabotaging their tyres last year for not giving Red Bull an engine might not be as far off as you think. They've found 2 seconds on the field. They have a strong car everywhere and here is no different. Last year was so bizarre it can only be explained by them being given dodgy tyres They should really waltz to a one stop win tomorrow barring any safety car luck.
I think from FP3 we can say that Redbull are closer to the front row than we assumed. Raikkonen again is getting everything out of the Ferrari whereas Vettel is having issues with rear downforce. Hamilton struggling all weekend.
