Especially when scoring goals from within his own half.

Yes, he's one of my fave players also. He's a player many of us felt that was never replaced and pined for after he left.

Note how I said "person"? The guy oozes class. Stays out of the spotlight, says the right things and an all round genuine nice guy.

Agree. Most players, no matter how big a hero they are, they have flaws.

Take Gerrard, probably the most influential player of the 21st Century for Liverpool, a hero to almost every Liverpool fan. But he was a selfish player, he did punch a DJ and end up in court, he had all that gang-history baggage and noone has forgot he wanted to leave and go to Chelsea at one point.

Still an amazing hero though for all the positive things he did that outweighs the bad.

Alonso, there is nothing bad to say about him. He's flawless, the worst thing anyone can say about him is that he had ginger hairs in his beard. Yes, that's bad indeed, but not something he could control.

The one against Newcastle was my favourite of his from-own-half goals. He beat a keeper with that one. The Luton one the keeper was nowhere near his own goal.

Top player. Seems like great person. Shame we couldn't keep him after that season but can't deny him wanting to move to Madrid and was justified with trophies won.

The epitome of 'the complete player'. Brilliant passer, brilliant goal scorer, brilliant team player, brilliant attitude .... Would welcome him back with open arms in any role.

even when his passes went astray they still managed to look elegant :cheesy:.
The best thing about his passing though was the pace control- it was more often than not the optimum pace so the recipient would immediately in full control of the ball

I was behind the goal in the Anfield Road end we won the ball and attcked the goal I was behind, the ball went central to Alonso and there were some great options on the counter.
Alonso made the pass and I swear there was a stunned silence for a second as everyone wondered what the **** he was doing only for the it to be a pass that no ****er in the whole ground could see.
    Class.

Why did Gerrard call Xabi "Xavi" in his Twitter post about Alonso? Is Xavi an alternate nickname for people called Xabier? Like Richard can be Rich or Dick, Robert can be Rob or Bob, And Zanjinho can be Greez or batard?

In fairness the 'v' and the 'b' are next to each other on the keyboard and his same twitter post included #xabialonso.
