**** you welshie, cricket is a great game. This thread has been done before on gc I'm sure.. I suspect the op is slightly odd..
Cricket is to slow paced for me. Bowler bowls ball, batsman taps it, then nothing happens for over a minute. I wouldn't mind if like in baseball the batsmen actually gave it a smash every time, but waiting over a minute just for the batsmen to tap it becomes tiresome after a while. I also don't get why teams play each other over and over again, sometimes for over a month. Why don't they just play each other once and move on
Home runs are few and far between in baseball though I've been to a couple of games. 9 innings of hell.
This. Half the time the batsman doesn't even swing. They just watch the other bloke throw the ball and hope he misses. Even in cricket they at least take a swing at the ball. And most of the time the batsman swings they either miss completely or shank it along the ground and get run out while the fat bastard takes five minutes to lumber to first base. Also never understood why baseball players are so fat. I can kind of understand it for the pitchers - swinging a massive gut in front of you could in theory create some kind of trebuchet effect to get the ball going faster. But how does it help the batters, other than to make them easier to run out?
Right, was thinking of saying something but given the level of contribution to this thread I would be wasting my breath.
Test cricket is a fantastic sport. T20 devalues it all unfortunately. There is absolutely no better way to spend a Summer's day than drinking at the cricket.
Of all the formats T20 is the worst. It is ok though. It's aimed at dullards like Matth, those who are spoonfed entertainment by people at sky telling them what's good. I'm surprised he doesn't like it. Test cricket though, truly a sport of the gods. Love it. A day at the test beats all things. Don't get me wrong, you do get **** test matches but you also get plenty **** football matches. Let's face it, much as I do love football the aim of it is simple; score one more than them and cheat like **** in order to do so. The vagaries and nuances of test cricket elevate it way above that.
A good bit of T20 is alright for a bit of light entertainment. Not the most subtle or tactical of games, but worth watching when someone has an almighty knock. I do like Test cricket, but it does drag a wee bit for my taste. Usually watch the fourth and fifth day - can't bring myself to follow a match that lasts a full five days!
Only time I'm interested is during the ashes. Otherwise its too slow and boring. Never seen a game live mind, a nice day in the sun drinking beer watching cricket sounds like it could be good fun.
Thats the way I am with baseball over here in the States. I find it beyond boring on tv, but going to the games are actually pretty fun. Beer and food with a couple a friends is always a nice time. Plus tickets are cheap.
