This article is specifically for anyone feeling like the sky fell in yesterday

    http://www.thisisanfield.com/2016/1...st-premier-league-points-tally-halfway-stage/

I think that given we've just seen our best first half of a season for 25 odd years we should be looking forward to the rest of this season starting with a lovely FA cup draw just cos one other team is having a great season we should not be crying in our teacups here.

We are in a cup semi final, we have taken more points than ever at half way and we got a home draw in FA cup v league 2 opponent.

Basically this season could not have gone much better could it? If you were offered this at the strt you'd have jumped at it you must admit.

I guess it's true. I was more annoyed at doing my ankle then getting frustrated at the result.

The reality is looking at the league winners in the past is their mentality and ability to plug bigger deficits and win the league.

I know many will not admit it but when you have stayed long without winning the league, any season you show some glimmer of hope the inner you wants the team to go for it. Outside most will say they are happy with a top 4 finish but if the chance to win the league is available it's hard to look the other way.

That said when one cools down its astonishing with the squad that we have to be in a position we are in. It is why I believe that whatever happens this season we will be adding quality to its depth. Let's sit, watch and enjoy the second half of the season.

We had lucas and moreno with origi on the bench and klopp put them all i. after that it was kids. we didn't have the depth to go change 4/5 players for this game.

now milner, matip, henderson and coutinho are out and who know what else we will be hiding. if we get all those back before the league cup semi great

The way we play we need to have like for like replacements in the seasons to come. It is good to have versatile players but the toil on the squad will become apparent should we qualify for Europe and the resting periods are few and far.

It's been one of our best starts to a season in history (I think) and only outdone by a team who are on a record breaking run.

Pretty much most of our new signings have settled in, scoring goals for fun and defending better as a team.

There's a lot of signs of progress but we should remember that Klopp is still building - it will take time and whilst we should enjoy our current title challenge, it's not the be all end all if we fail. Getting CL qualification is the number one priority for this season which should hopefully help us build a bigger and better squad for the long term.

You guys have started fantastically and unfortunately for you we have had a better run as most times you would be top of the table.

Klopp has got you playing attractive and very fast football and you guys seem full of energy and fitness.

Your fullbacks are looking great (defensively and offensively although i know jimmy will disagree, not sure why he expects his fullbacks to be messi-esque and create chance after chance). Hendo is looking like a solid holding midfielder and in Lallana and Winja you have 2 great runners who are great on the ball (lallana seems to have added some end product, he's been great at receiving the ball and not losing it in the centre with his stupid cruyff turns).

Origi has looked good and you have done all this without Coutinho. Mane again has improved your team and has been scoring crucial goals and been scaring defences with his pace.

Only worrying thing for you guys is Can coming into doing Hendersons job. Physically he's strong and has that aggression about him. Can play of both feet. It's his defensive brain and quick distribution that lets him down.

The other thing will be your keeper although Mingers been fine since he's been back and Lovren who always has a dumb mistake in him every now and again. Also whats happened to firmino, guys form has dropped off a cliff and can't make simple passes correctly

IMO the basic 1-11 is Ok but just ok. the job klopp has done in drilling them to be so fit and focus on closing down channels of play and to win the ball back then go play is astounding.

Can i agree.... nothing quick about his play and speed of simple pass.

We will IMO do ok. I'd love a league cup and a title push with a n fa cup run thrown in. That'd be an awesome season. a top 4 imo is just a good season not a great one.

Mingolet is an ok keeper. he holds the ball so really its just speed of distribution that ****s him

I do too, but I never subscribed to the "we might win the title this year" malarkey.

I think those that did got their hopes up and now they've been dashed. Before the season kicked off I was expecting 6th or 7th, so to be so high up is great.

If we get the Gunners 4th place trophy this year that will be incredible considering Klopp has sold more than he has bought so far and we still haven't fixed LB, Striker, or goalkeeper positions. Imagine when we do.

Mane' ACON twaddle worries me, but I think we still have a good chance at top 4.

neither did i. I said 6th like. thats now pretty much the absolute worst we could do.

The 4th place would only be a "good" season. add a pot to that and its great.

Doing really well and very happy with our performance so far. Funny how when we actually do well in the league we do enough that would see is win in most other seasons but there's always one team who is doing that bit extra to be ahead of us. <grr>

yeah but barring last year there has been a side on about 90 odd points.

this year the top six seem so far ahead of all the other clubs... but then poch, klopp, wenger, mourinho, guardiola and of course conte may just have something to do with it.

its either money or just europes top managers and we know the rest of the prem has cash to burn.

Objectively whatever it's going very well. I think people are just pissing their pants and wrist slashing because unfortunately ****ing chelsea are above us and doing what they're doing and we hate that and we hate them which makes our occasional dropping points even more frustrating.

I could never have imagined we'd be 2nd at this stage in the season so I'm more than happy. Thing is much always wants more and unexpected or not, when you're this close it's easier to be disappointed with 'poor' results. 10 from 12 over the holiday is an achievement.

I'm happy with where we are at present. If we had lost/drawn to City, Arsenal and Chelsea instead of Burnley, Sunderland and Bournemouth we would not be so pissed off. It's annoying that we can beat the top teams but lose to teams we should easily beat.

I would still be happy with top four at the end of the season, the League or F.A cup would be a bonus.

I can only echo what others are saying, in that the better you're doing, the higher your expectations. And the bigger the frustration at minor setbacks.
We'd all have jumped at the chance to be here at this stage - if asked at the start of the season - but now we are here we have to make the most of it. I don't go along with those who say the title is out of reach so just be happy with CL qualification, we have to keep going as though we believe we can do it. The higher you aim, the higher you're likely to reach.
We have a difficult time coming up with injuries and the loss of Mane (and still possibly Matip), but other teams will have their own problems.
At the moment, all except Chelsea are below us - let's make sure they stay there.

If you're going to lose, it's better to lose to those lower down. Whilst that appears to be a sign of vulnerability, and is annoying, we all know there are few easy games in the PL, and taking points off your direct rivals is better than hoovering them up from the "lesser" teams.
Of course getting them all would be best, but you can't win 'em all.
We've won 3 and drawn 2 out of our games against the current top 6. That's not bad at all.

And not one of us on here can influence the goings on at Liverpool so why not just enjoy the ride rather than getting pissed off (and some were very pissed off after Sunderland) about minor set backs?

Not aimed at you Saint, I generally agree with what you've said here. We tend to agree on most things imo <ok>

Happy where we are at and a little surprised.

Only worry is lack of activity to address loss of mane.

We have players coming back which will strengthen us obviously but just feel we did a bit of business this window and it would seriously cement that top 4 finish and hopefully put pressure on Chelsea.

They will drop points, just whether we can capitalise and bring that ****ing trophy back to where it should be.

Sitting pretty with big ears :emoticon-0172-mooni

That should get a few responses <laugh>
