If people think Riviere is bad then wait until you see this guy. He makes Shola look prolific. He is a Graham Carr target and is absolute dog ****.

Judging by the youtube vids of Pepe his technique and style of play is very similar to Daniel Sturridge so I'd say he's worth the gamble compared to some of the garbage players we've been linked to during this tumbleweed transfer window.

The thing about Carr is he looked at many players and we never got his top targets Which are all class

    Aubameyang
    Kevin gamero
    Virgil van dyke

Plus cabaye, arfa and even cisse weren't bad signings even santon did ok

    Few more I'm sure

I'm suggesting he wasn't entirely to blame and that we ended up getting the players he added to a list because he had to actually have a long list

Didn't Carr almost have Dele Alli on the verge of signing too but Charnley's over haggling gave Spurs the opportunity to get him instead.

George Weah, Jay Jay Okocha, Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba to name a few would have something to say about that.

To be fair mate, most scouts would spot talent in that lot. Their development may not have happened as well at Newcastle as it did at the likes of Dortmund, Southampton etc, I mean, Fonte and VVD have been great as a partnership together, but would he have had the same impact playing alongside Coloccini? Not likely.

Aubameyang possibly would have made a good job of things at Newcastle, but the service he's getting is from Reus, Gotze, Pulisic, Weigl et al, not Jack Colback and Gouffran.

I reckon Fonte can make any other centre half look good. Most underrated player in the PL (well along with Valencia at your lot). Honestly Liverpool have dropped a massive clanger. 8m for him and they are a shambles at centre half and goalkeeper. Fit as a fiddle, will do a cracking job. Klopp should have made signing him and Pickford a priority - they'd be a different team. As it is their season will likely just continue to be up and down until they settle in 5th or 6th ish.

Precisely, and Santon/Cisse didn't exactly turn out to be world beaters. The only smart thing about Cabaye - who was well known enough - was that Carr knew of the get out clause and we moved quickly because he literally had a Sports Direct SALE tag on him. If there'd been no clause and we'd been bidding with someone else, we'd have lost him. Debuchy and Janmaat got us no return on the investment.

It's been quite a long series of crap from Carr, I don't get what the fuss is. Like Pardew, he had one glory season but the rest of the time has been utter crap. Ben Arfa, less time playing well than Cisse. Tiote, we've literally had that guy leeching from payroll for two years. It may be Carr's hands are tied, but in that same time NGolo Kante, Anthony Knockaert, Riyad Mahrez, Moussa Dembele and god knows how many others have appeared for £5 a pop.

The obvious point, sadly, is that he can dine out on Moussa Sissoko as far as his employer is concerned til the day he dies.....
