Probably a good buy. I am less certain about him being given the captaincy. There should be healthy competition for the two striker spots between Pitman, Chaplin, Kambala, Smith with perhaps Lowe and Naismith thrown in (alhough I feel there will be an attacking midfield spot for Naismith). Giving Pitman the captaincy will make the other contenders feel they are all competing for one spot. The above assumes we will play with two up front -not one. Despite all the competition noted above Smith - and possibly Kambala - , may be the only ones suited to a 'one up front' role and I have the impression Smith revealed some limitations in this role last season.
