Yeah he probably will but doesn't it seem strange to you he goes off on holiday just days after coming back from one and he's about to be announced as manager of a different club?
Yeah and it's absolute wham. He sounds and writes like a 14 year old girl who's just been dumped. Koeman doesn't want it and is being forced to take the £6m salary at the bigger club because Saints slammed the door in his grid. He's fell out with his brother who's going to have to be dragged up there kicking and screaming. The club didn't rate him anyway and he's a complete ****. Blah, blah, blah.
Oh BTW, Adam Blackmore, who commentates on Saints and knows a lot about the club, says a lot of that is true.
If you like. Seems plausible enough to me though. Amd it would explain a thing or two to those of us who continue to think "Everton? Who the **** are Everton?"
If that fairy tale makes you feel better about us pinching the manager who you all wanted to sign an extension a few weeks back and had just guided you into Europe following your best top flight finish in over 30 years, then you cling onto it it mate
The same bloke who said Koeman had no interest in the Everton job a couple of weeks back you mean? That's that then, it must be true
We've obviously done them a favour here, I mean 3 weeks ago his next move after them was going to be Barca or Arsenal, fast forward to today and they've managed to get shut of a complete **** of a manager by the sounds of it. Well done Saints.
Look if Everton want to play the slippery eel, use underhand tactics to unsettle people, manipulate the media, use agents to do their dirty work, steal other teams best players or manager, pinch other people's ideas then and get players on the cheap you need to borrow the book from Tottenham. They wrote it.
Welcome to the football food chain. Arsenal and Spurs did it to you for players and manager. At one point I would guess the sale of players was vital to the survival of the club?
Well, yeah that's exactly the point. In this version of events - which you have to agree is not entirely implausible - Koeman never had any real interest in the Everton job, other than as leverage to get a better deal out of Saints. Saints effectively called his bluff, Ron ****ed off to Turkey with the hump. It all adds up. Ps. not a million miles away from what happened with Alan Ball.
If he tried to use Everton to leverage a better deal, then when they rebuffed it, why did he not just accept that he wasn't going to get what he wanted and stay, given he's supposedly being dragged up to Merseyside like? It's people twisting the actual turn of events and adding a narrative that suits their bias. Koemans agent probably did try and get a better deal on the table from Saints after our initial approach, why wouldn't he? But to then twist that into Koeman weeping into his ale after his plan failed and making out that he really doesn't want the job, is deluded bollocks
Well, the flaw in the theory is that obviously Saints did like him enough to offer him a new contract. But it's entirely possible that the board were not unanimous in their enthusiasm to extend his contract. He did oversee a rough patch in midwinter when we won 1 game in ten, lost at home to Crystal Palace, and some fans were calling for his head. There were rumours of unrest behind the scenes at the time - as there always are when any team has a poor run of results. Maybe they were more than rumours. Maybe it's all bullshit. The stuff about the tension with the board over Ron's unwillingness to play the nippers is true btw.
He got you to 6th and Europe, your highest finish for over 30 years. Les Reed talked openly about the discussions regarding a new contract for him, you had been barking to not try and retain him. There was to'ing and fro'ing during our pursuit of him, I told you that he'd said no to us about 10 days before his change of heart. I was told the discussions were ongoing to that point - you lads refuted this at the time - but he concluded that he'd stay where he was and see out his contract. However, we went back again and he said yes. I'm sure a large part of that decision was down to the cash on offer, it'd turn anyone's head in fairness.
