Apparently, showing very strong interest. Sounds like an offer is imminent. Unless we can get at least 1.5 million, I would say don't sell.
I think if they offer anywhere near that figure,Spanish, he'll be gone. Can't make up my mind if the guy's lost it completely or just suffering a (very) extended lean patch. The service he gets,or rather lack of it,does him no favours.
Sell for anything near a million in my opinion...can't keep hoping he repeats a freak season fron two year ago.
I would normally say sell, but the problem would be, could you get a good enough replacement in the short time to the end of the transfer window? No one will sell good players at this time of the season, and if they do, the price will be over inflated as teams get desperate. That then leaves journey men freebies (ala Best) or young loanees. If he did go to Newcastle, I'd take a straight swap for Adam Armstrong all day long.
£1 mill / £1.5 mill. SERIOUSLY? Yes he's 33, but with the tv ££££ transfer deadline day approaching and Newcastle being desperate to add i'd say we'd need at least £3 / £3.5 mill to consider this. Murphy is absolutely key to how we play in the 4-3-3 system. Without him I donno! If the £££££ is right and perhaps Newcastle chuck in something good for us part x then fair enough do business. But the offer has to be right, it's very late into the market now so we don't have to sell unless it's our terms.
Thing is, he has clearly shown loss of form, goal-scoring touch and general performance due to lousy service. The same could be said for Freddie. When players move to fresh pastures, new ethos and management, they often pick up, become instant stars or flops! I feel we have seen the best of him....but as some have said, who do we gamble with so late in the day? And what decent player would gamble on us! Interesting. My head says let him go for £2-£3m. I cant believe £5! Keep blooding the young - and unless MM has a replacement striker lined up, bank the dosh, and wait.
I'd hope that we would have plenty of replacement possibilities already scouted out for all positions. Maybe if Murphy were to go the style of football would have to change to play to the strengths of a different player.
Just announced on sky that a price has been agreed I don't think he will be a great loss and as previously mentioned maybe this will make MM think about a change in our approach play
Problem is, will the money be made available? Imo he is not worth more than 2 million, to us maybe but market value, no way!
For 3.5M I'm all for selling him. We'll probably have something lined up already and Murphy going will help that transfer happen.
I enjoyed his style, ooomph and golden boots period...while it lasted but only saw him live bout 5 times, so perhaps wont miss him. Farewell Murph, you did us proud and banged them in in a short but magic McG & Murph spell. Wish him well. Many of our classier players find a new life and score hatful's, often against us!!
