Given the recent fan backlash that erupted after Everton announced their new club crest (and subsequent apology), it got me thinking. Would you be open to a new Southampton club crest? As most fans are aware, we've had our current design since the 1970s (courtesy of a Mr Rolland Parris) and we have only slightly modified the design since, once for copyright reasons and once to incorporate the 125th year anniversary. In my opinion, the crest looks slightly dated and could do with a redesign but despite all this, I still unashamedly love the crest. Before the 1970s crest design competition, we wore the crest of the city itself, something similar to the design below, which draws heavily from the city's coat of arms. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image I personally feel the Liebherr takeover signalled a new era for the club and I would not be surprised to hear that Cortese has already looked into changing our crest. Obviously any redesign would be handled by professionals but I decided to give it a go myself. So I took to redesigning the club's crest with the hope of drawing inspiration from both the city's coat of arms and the current design whilst keeping it simplistic and fresh, this is what I have so far: please log in to view this image Firstly, what do you think but more importantly, would you as a fan of the club, ever be open to a change in club crest?
I think the current crest is a little lame. The tree and the waves are a bit naff. I would vote yes to your re-design. Have to keep the football and halo, to me that says it all.
Yes. My screen lagged to never just as I clicked vote, lol. The reason I say yes is that the current badge isn't a traditional badge as such. Nor is the kit. I'd understand people not wanting to change it if it was a traditional badge, one that had never or hardly been changed. But that isn't the case.
What's wrong with the trees and the wave? It represents the New Forest, where a huge proportion of fans live ... I think it's good the whole city/surrounding areas are represented within the crest
Your design is conceptually quite good, and please don't take this the wrong way, but it's a little bland for my tastes. Given the right design, sure, I'd welcome a change. I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the current one though. I guess that makes me a 'maybe one day' kinda guy.
Never, hate change, don't want to embrace it, not even on a random poll on the internet. And where's the ****ing stripes, can I have them back yet!
Yeah, like I said, obviously I'm not a professional, just a procrastinating Uni student. Any redesign would be in more capable hands I'm sure, I just feel our crest is very dated, quite obviously 70s in terms of aesthetics and could do with an update.
Fair enough, I personally don't see much wrong with the crest but a change will be good sometime in the future
I've come up with a badge that really represents where a lot of the fans come from please log in to view this image
I'd be open to change but fine with the current one, and it's hard to get these things right, as evidenced by Everton and Roma's recent refinements. So 'Maybe one day' (once the right design comes around), then.
There is a version of the city coat of arms (the middle one) on a red background that looks fabulous. I can't upload it as it's too big, but here's the URL: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=s...LzBsKQ7AajyIDQBg&ved=0CDMQsAQ&biw=768&bih=928 Top row, in the middle.
This! Think it will definitely be changed in the next few years though. I'm sure I'll get over it pretty quickly if it happens
A "Huge proportion"? As beautiful as it is, I thought 16 people, 100 wild ponies, some adders and a few dozen toads lived there?
